He's baaaacccckkk...Donald Trump Demeans Gay Marriage By Comparing It To His Taste In Golf Putters
On the tails of being the brunt of many jokes at the White House Corresspondents’ Dinner, Donald Trump offers a new collection of jocular political positions in a New York Times profile. Among them is a new explanation for his opposition to marriage equality for same-sex couples. Declaring himself a “traditionalist,” Trump compares same-sex marriage to long golf putters:

TRUMP: It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.

This is what he thinks makes for a “conservative with a big heart“? Generally, individuals who demonstrate that they have values — even billionaires — actually bother to consider the lives other people live. There are severe long-term consequences for same-sex couples deprived of the rights and protections of marriage equality, but Trump thinks a golf metaphor does justice to the issue despite the fact he took two mulligans on marriage himself.

1. That sounds downright tolerant compared
to the things Huckabee has said. The fundies will probably be dismayed by Trump's liberal attitude.

8. Removing traditions is to get someone out of their comfort zone.

It adds imbalance to there actions, if they act by there own traditions, that not everyone has.

Traditions can rarely be defended accept by those that observe them, so getting anyone to defend by tradition, puts them on shaky ground.

Also them losing the security of tradition creates issues for their balance.

So some of that is tactical.

As an example I think seeing two guys kissing is not what I want to see in public, call that what you want. At the same time I am not going to take away a concept of equal rights. Also the way a feminine man like a gay fashion designer is stereotyped, I think is wrong, by my feelings when I see it, but that does not mean I am going to tell that person how he has to act in a free society.

So I have traditional views on many topics, but also views of equality that can override those views. I think that is the difference from bias and discrimination, since most people have some biases.

I also know there are some traditions that can add comfort to people, since it adds structure, taking those away can effectively put someone off balance in there arguments.

If you want to know the reason for some of those actions that many use on putting non traditional things in an argument.

But anyways,

Drive for show, putt for dough.

11. That may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard from any potential Presidential candidate
Did he seriously just compare gay marriage to a really long putter? I have absolutely no clue what he was trying to say, but it is full of sexual innuendos and I have to wonder, is this from the Onion?

12. What? Just... what?
What the fuck is he talking about? How is there any comparison between what kind of stick someone chooses to use to hit a ball into a hole and who they choose to spend their lives with?

This just blows my mind. I know how to address most of these arguments. When they argue tradition, you can point out hateful traditions or how modern marriage is actually a pretty recent invention. If they call gay men sissies, you direct them to Chris Kanyon. But this isn't even wrong, it's just gibberish.

13. I three putt with long putters and short putters
The long putter is easier to drop kick after a short miss. Bigger target.
