1. Global News is calling it a Conservative government with NDP opposition.
Early estimates on Twitter are suggesting Conservative majority.

2. Let us all raise a toast to the narcissistic NDP assholes for making this possible
Edited on Mon May-02-11 09:18 PM by Sen. Walter Sobchak
Your agenda will be well served by a Harper majority, oh well at least the separatists are headed for oblivion.

3. I agree. Big effing deal they are the official opposition. Once Conservatives
privatize Canada and destroy healthcare, there is not one effing thing anyone now or later.

5. Let's review the facts:
The Liberals are not the official opposition, right?

I wonder why not...hmm...

4. And why shouldn't the Quebecers have their right to freedom?
Edited on Mon May-02-11 10:29 PM by originalpckelly
I know the arrangement they wanted was a little sweet, but damn, people have the right to determine what nation they belong to. You don't fucking own them. It's like a husband forcing his wife to stay married to him, even when she wants a divorce.

6. For a million reasons not to mention the fact that they are hypocrites. First
nations don't want to secede from Canada and Quebec refuses to negotiate their borders should Quebec secede.

8. Because they dont want it...
There have been two referenda on sovereignty; voters rejected both.

10. why don't you ask them,
They voted against separation in two separate referendums fifteen years apart, they threw out the provincial separatist party and now they have thrown out the federal separatist party. I'm not an expert - but I am getting a strong sense of the direction their moving in.

The separatists have delivered them nothing and have only deprived them of a seat at the national table.

18. i'm not sure their collectively anything
I would imagine the NDP elected a lot of zero's tonight having come out of nowhere and probably having given a lot of nominations to anybody with a pulse.

7. Please explain why the Liberals would have been a better choice...
Given the number of seats they lost, it seems voters didn't think much of the Liberal opposition.

9. I am no great fan of Liberals and I votred stragetically for the
non-Conservative candidate with the greatest likihood of winning. The NDP joined the COnservatives bashing the Liberals in their ads and this is the result. Ironically the NDP have less power now than they did when Harper had a minority. They NDP should never have gone after the Liberals, they should of spent every effing cent destroying Harper.

It was clear as day that when MANY diehard Liberals saw NDP gaining strength they voted Conservative.

12.  Liberals cover a wide spectrum, many are right of centre and will vote
conservative if the NDP is posed to win. The reason why Liberals won so many elections is that they attracted the centre right vote. It's disasterous that they've opted for Harper butin their eyes they have no option. Yeah they'll probably regret it but by then the horses will have left the barn.

13. The horses will still be there the next election.
And harper will have pissed them enough that no brainwashing campaign will prevent them from bringing the horses back (i.e., kick harper's ass, like they did Mulroney's with only 2 seats...).

15. Harper has vowed to cancel election subsidies and open the door to
corporate donors. Within a few months the conservatives with lots of money at their disposal will start attack ads against Layton and the NDP, the kind they continually ran against Ignatiff. Where is the NDP going to get their financing? How are they going to get the message out?

17. The NDP doesn't need to get the message out, because......
the message is already out (so to speak).

Granted, harper can bully anything he wants, but the majority of Canadians who still oppose him will take to the streets if he goes overboard (and more so in Quebec...).

There WILL BE another election in Canada, you know? Do you remember kim campbell's TWO miserable seats? Now I'm not saying the cons will do as bad, although if they 'touch' universal healthcare, they might as well end up with NONE, no matter how much millions they'll spend on bs propaganda.

Stop over-reacting, take a deep breath, and have a little more faith in Canadians not wanting him to act like a ruthless king.

He's not, AND he knows it.

Besides, I doubt he will run again in 4 years.

14. I just took issue with the word 'diehard'
I have an uncle who a diehard liberal and he wouldn't be caught dead voting for the cons. Soft liberals I can see voting for them. You are right, they will be in a world of hurt and regret in a few years, I'm sure. I have my list of "I told you so"'s ready for use on my family. It'll be too late though.
