I agree that the public rejoicing was in bad taste, but.....

how many swing voters, or voters who don't really pay attention, were at a ball game or watching it on TV when the news broke? How many of them heard the spontaneous cries of "USA" or even joined in?

I'm happy he is dead. I find the celebrations a bit repulsive but I think we picked up some votes and in the long run that is going to be what counts.

It may be a propaganda victory for now but if we can turn it into political victory then I will not complain about the behavior.

Reagan's metaphorical "stool" had three legs: A strong National Defense, Fiscal Conservatism and Social Conservatism. This may help us make the case that the (R)s are not as strong on national defense as they would like people to believe. We are already working on the problems with their regressive economic policies, and gaining ground every day.

Maybe we can turn this into a one legged stool and let them try to run solely on social wedge issues. I think some voters are finally catching onto that and that playing that card to often makes it lose it's impact.

I can't bring myself to be happy about the death of another human being. Relieved perhaps, but not happy. I think that I may be able to be happy about the political ramifications for 2012. I am going to try and keep myself focused on that and ignore the rejoicing.

1. Seriously, will someone please flush that stool already.
And it had three legs? Man, that's fucked up. What did he do, eat some conjoined twins?

2. I cannot bring myself to be bothered by my fellow NYers being so relieved
by this. Most of the rest of the country watched it from a great distance. The fumes at ground zero- the awful smell smoke reached Brooklyn and NJ and lasted well into the holiday season.
We all had just a degree of seperation to it. It was not so much about it happening to this country, but to people and places we loved firsthand. I am not joyous, but I am very glad it;s finally done.

3. I came to work yesterday
morning and once again saw the hole in the skyline and for the first time in a long time, I smiled. Glad the motherfucker is dead. I'm not sure where the dividing line between glad and joyous is but I don't begrudge my neighbors for handling it their way.
