Critical Thinking versus Lateral Thinking
Which is more superior? Or are there times when one is better suited than the other?

2. They both have their uses.
Actually, it's the THINKING part per se that seems to be the rarity these days . . at this point I'd be happy to see more thinking of any sort, no matter what the style, as long as it has some relationship to the facts. . .:7

3. More superior to what?
Both are necessary. Critical thinking helps you to recognize bullshit and is superior to being gullible. Lateral thinking helps you find creative solutions to problems, and is better than thinking only in stereotypes and empty abstractions, and hence becoming stuck on bad but "accepted" solutions.

8. By your observations,
would you say that conservatives are resistant to critical thinking because they're very static in their beliefs? But are they equally limited when it comes to lateral thinking?

And, how is it possible for people in the aerospace industry, for example, to rely on both methods of thinking in order to work through some complicated, technical problems. Yet, they remain static with everything else in life? I just don't get it.

4. Are those truly disjoint and opposite?
Just applying some critical thinking here.

6. That's the thing.
"Lateral thinking" was coined in 1967. I was wondering how much the playing of video games has integrated into our thinking.

7. There is no 'versus' there -
Critical thinking is deconstructive, lateral thinking is connective. Two different approaches, each to be applied to diffent situations. Critical thinking aids in identifying the problem, lateral thinking aids in finding solutions.

11. I don't know about that.
You have to have some very sharp lateral thinking skills to get through some of these video games.
