A Theory on the Pakistani Involvement with bin Laden
Edited on Tue May-03-11 05:16 PM by louis c
I've been listening to all the analysis of why the bin Laden raid was kept secret from the Pakistanis. Also, how could bin Laden be housed so close to the capitol and the army training center without notice?

I'm guessing that the Pakistani government is dysfunctional. The ISS works covertly and has different factions who believe in different causes and philosophies and have different levels of support for and trust with the United States.

There is no doubt that some faction of the Pakistani military or secret police knew who was in that compound. That doesn't mean it reached the level of the present government.

In any event, it was a remarkable, military event and proved the leadership of President Obama as well as his coolness and intelligence under pressure.

If you want to piss off your teabagger or repuke Friends do what I do. "My guy killed bin Laden. My guy is a guy with balls.'

Wow, watch them erupt after that one.

3. We're twisting their arm
and they're reluctantly giving up intel and air space but the agreement is that neither party acknowledges the cooperation or coercion (your pick) publicly.

2. I wonder if ...
Bush had some kind of tacit agreement with Musharraf...because once Bin Laden skipped over the border into Pakistan Bush seemed to forget all about him, citing Pakistani sovereignty. The Repub presidential candidates also cited the same thing.

4. My thoughts was this was his "house arrest" compound.
Seems odd that we get him right when we need to start winding down the "war on terror". Almost story bookish.
