Okay, DUers, fess up. Where were you?
I was watching the Ninja Warrior marathon on G4 (yes, I finally have cable again) on Sunday night with the kitty snuggled in my lap, and when I started nodding off, I just shut off the TV and went to bed. A few hours later, it's Monday morning, Banjo wakes me with a kiss on the nose, I stumble into the living room and turn on the TV again, tuning in to the morning news. WTF? Are you serious? We got Osama at long last?!? Well, slap my butt and call me a teabagger! We got him!

Anyway, that's how and when I found out. Your turn.

The announcement cut into that broadcast, too. I am a bit surprised G4 didn't cut in with at least a special announcement from whomever was on the night shift.

And noticed a tweet about Obama making a major address soon and then another tweet below that speculating bin Laden had been killed.

I then turned to MSNBC and they were talking about his address, but no specifics of why he was addressing the country.

15. I was in a house with no TV!
I was on the couch reading, my son on the computer, my IPhone by my side. My AP app went off (breaking news dinger) I picked it up and read the message that OBL had been killed in raid, and his body was in US hands. Could find no other news on news sites, neither could son on computer. Finally found news that President to speak at 10:30, it was way past that time, and we finally heard him speak online on ABC news. Later in the night, I read more of the details on IPhone BBC news site.

35. My son intercommed me to say the same thing.
I was upstairs and he and his girlfriend were watching TV elsewhere in the house, and I got this frantic call - "MOM!!! TURN ON CNN!!! THE PRESIDENT'S GONNA MAKE SOME SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!" I tried to calm him down a little bit - it was one of those WTF moments.

I think I was online working on the band's Facebook page. I certainly wasn't on here at that moment, otherwise I would have caught wind of something from all the alert people here. I turned to CNN and the buildup had already started, with then-unconfirmed rumors and whispers that it might be about bin Laden. Made me wonder whether they'd got him, the way things were beginning to stack up.

Pretty exciting around here the other night. What I always like about these things is they seem to prompt a lot of conversation about current events and the stuff that led up to what's happening now. Most of the time, the boys and their friends are way too young to know much about the causes of a lot of what we're now living through. So I get to explain it to them. Keeps me on my toes.

24. I got a call from the newsroom
We print the Monday morning paper on Sunday night, and normally I get the files for the news section about 8pm. About 6:30pm, I got a call from Mark--he is the sports editor and is in charge of the newsroom on Saturday and Sunday night--telling me there's going to be an announcement from the president so don't figure on getting the paper real early.

Okay, no prob...I went downstairs and told the pressmen and the mailroom supervisor to expect a long night. They ordered pizza. I didn't get any--the inserting crew and the pizza showed up at the same time. (They ate the box too.)

About an hour later: "Bin Laden's dead!"

And ten minutes later MY boss called to tell me...he got a call from the managing editor of one of our other papers.

stayed up late to get info. Not much at that point, except bin-Laden was dead, and we had lost a couple of Seal Team 6.

Later, there were reports of all kinds of deaths and carnage, and I knew it was time to break myself away...but only for a few minutes, I needed more, and was amazed to the kids at the WH. I expected them at Ground Zero, but the kids at the WH impressed me. A late night spontaneous gathering...rarely see that.

63. I had on Cartoon Network in the background...
...while surfing DU. Was going to hit the hay at about 11 or so... had to get up early for a run to New Jersey.

A couple of threads pop up saying that the president was going to be speaking live at 10:30pm.

Well, at about 10:15 I go upstairs and tell the parental units that something was up, and I turn on MSNBC. The networks didn't have a clue, so I figured that either a) there was some sort of naval disaster or b) the Marines were about to storm Tripoli.

Again.

I was trying to think of something that would happen in a very isolated area where no media was in position to catch a rumor from anybody or pickup a stray distress call. A nuke boat sank, maybe. A hundred people trapped at 200 fathoms in the North Atlantic.

So I diddled around upstairs on the big TV screen until about 10:50, then went back downstairs to poke around on DU while I had the smaller TV on next to me.

Then the rumors started circulating. Then some DUers reported that CBS was reporting OBL dead. Then I was like "Yes! About time!"

64. Had CNN on as background noise
And heard them announce the upcoming live POTUS coverage. Texted some family members (who dont't follow politics) telling them to find a TV to turn on ASAP since it was really, really, REALLY NOT normal for POTUS to go live so late at night. Especially my daughter who lives in NYC since the whole phrase "this has to do with national security" had me worrying if it was going to involve a NYC location.
Spent the time speculating with them all thru texts while surfing the cable news channels and refreshing DU pages!

Stayed up most of the night watching coverage...I don't even know what time I fell asleep on the couch with the TV on, woke up at 9am still curled up the couch!
