http://www.sacbee.com/2011/05/04/3601115/37-magnitude-quake-hits-central.html

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-3.7 temblor struck at about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday. It was centered 11 miles south of Keeler, a tiny town near Owens Lake in Inyo County.

We live in Sacramento, and around that time I was sound asleep but I heard him get out of bed. He's a big dog, GS. He got up and was just standing there, I thought he wanted on the bed. He just walk around the bed and went outside. I made a point to check the time and it was 1:19. I eventually had to turn on the lights and go find him. He went out side to eat dirt.

Thing is, this quake was pretty far off. About 350 miles south. Could he have felt it? He sleeps on a Coolaroo type bed.

1. We have a dog who will wake from a sound sleep...
... if a neighborhood 'possum is standing silently on the back wall simply thinking about digging through our compost heap. But she'll sleep through a Richter four earthquake and maybe wake up and go "huh?" in a five.

On the other hand we had a dog who'd wake up and start barking seconds before an earthquake. Also, if there was a cooking accident she'd start howling like the fire alarm before the alarm went off with just about 100% accuracy, enough warning that I could be standing under the alarm ready to hit the reset button with the broom handle the moment it went off.
