The use of psychiatric medications by military children is on the rise. Overall, in 2009, more than 300,000 prescriptions for psychiatric drugs were provided to children under 18 who are Tricare beneficiaries.

1. all I can say is,during Viet Nam when my dad was in those parts more than he wasn't

it's a good thing pot was so prevalent in Texas.I wouldn't have been able to keep my sanity.Wrist cutting was common,as was profound sexual activity and drinking.Antidepressants weren't commonly used in teenagers...but probably should have been.Living on a military base,I guess I saw more of it.

2. +1000! I think most of the population hasn't any clue about "growing up military"

And if you happened to be male, you would probably be looking at combat within a few weeks of high school graduation.So what the hell, party like there's no tomorrow since that was a very real possibility.

Add the Cold War which meant that unlike today's terrorism "threat", the other side actually had a military with real bombs and missiles.

BTW, wherein TX? I was at Amarillo AFB.

My dad "Listened to the phone" a lot...in Chinese and Vietnamese.
