This has the makings of a environmental disaster.

State officials are investigating why thousands of fish washed up dead on the shores of the Arkansas River last week.

Officials are expected to release their estimate of the total number of dead fish Monday, local NBC station KARK 4 News reported. It is likely to be in the hundreds of thousands.

The fish were found Thursday by a tugboat operator along a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River near the city of Ozark.

The mass kill occurred just one day before thousands of blackbirds dropped dead from the sky in Beebe, Ark., which is 125 miles away.

2. Agreed. Almost Biblical when you add this to the die-offs of honeybees and bats.

8. The other articles say no, it would kill all species..
that said, drum are a vermin fish in these parts. I am sure they play a role in the ecology, but they do tend to take over and over populate.

4. My SIL is a licensed exterminator and he tells me there is a
pesticide that kills birds in the same way as this link

They eat poisoned bait and litterally die in mid flight.

With a fish kill near by the two incidents may be related, but the birds would not have flown more than a few hundred yards.
