Governor Not-My-Problem and the Blizzard of Conservatism

I go a bit afield in this post, I'm afraid, but what I'm wondering is this:

Would Chris Christie's reaction during the blizzard have been different if he were a liberal? In other words, if he gave a shit about governemnt, would he have used it more to help his citizens? It's pretty clear from his "none of my business" press conference that he's not a believer in an activist type of Governorship, so how come nobody's asking that question? Seems to me pretty clear that when we put people who hate government in charge of government, we get elected officials who give good government a bad name - why isn't that a huge part of this story?

1. Well, Giuliani has long been pointed to as the model for response

So, unless one believes that Giuliani is a liberal, then I think the issue is broader than contempt for the role of government. I think with Christie it is one of arrogance, self-entitlement, and incompetence.

I'm sure there are tons of people for whom Giuliani isn't conservative ENOUGH, but I'm clearly not going so far as to call him a liberal.

2. Imo, if he was a liberal the press would have gone down to Florida and hounded him every day

They would have filmed him at Disney and contrasted it with videos of people struggling from the storm. And if he then returned to deal with the issues, the press would have said that he was forced by them to do the right thing.

3. What's funny

Those of us in NJ where I work? We are talking about Corey Booker's behavior. The national media (I guess? Hmmm) Is talking about Gov Gross but we find him irrelevant. :rofl:

5. Talking about Booker how?

I assume it's positively because that's all I've really heard. Sure, it was probably a bit much at times, but I'd be interested to know what folks are saying about SuperBooker.

6. Mika and Joe were very effusive about Booker this a.m. Showed

pictures of him shoveling and then mentioned the diaper delivery. He's gold right now, and makes me proud to say I'm originally from Jersey. Go Cory!

HE should be the next Governor of this state. Him shoveling that snow in Newark was akin to a former Gov of Arkansas back in 1992 throwing sandbags around the midwest floods (Clinton).

That had an impact on me as 19 year old heading to the polls in November 1992.

I'd step up and canvass, knock on doors, call, etc. etc. to Booker in Trenton. He's not afraid of getting dirty and doing a little hard work for Team New Jersey! ;-)

8. I think he is gearing up for a run

I traveled from Monmouth County to Newark to work on his campaign in May and he hinted at running for governor (and later president) in his victory speech.
