How to debate with a Fox viewer

Make shit up.

Come on, you know that they won't check, and besides, it's what they're used to.

8. Why bother?
Sport.

Don't attach to the outcome. Just enjoy the process.

The objective is not vindication of your views, it's the looks on their little faces, bless them.

3. And scream as loudly as you can. Don't allow your opponent to get a word in, and
rudely cut him/her off when there's an attempt to do so.

9. That's what my father does.
If it looks like he's going to lose an argument, he makes shit up that can't be disproved. If you have a discussion with him about the civil rights era, he will claim that black people here in MS were voting in the 1950's. You won't be able to disprove it because you weren't there and you didn't see the things he saw. It's an infuriating tactic to use in an argument because you don't want to call your dad a liar to his face but in your heart you know he's making shit up. Some people invent a whole other reality to prop up their twisted ideologies.

Just a thought.

11. For example...

He says: "I saw black people voting in the 50s"

You reply: "It wasn't real. They weren't really voting. The Klan faked it to derail the Civil Rights movement. Fox News did a massive report on it last year."

Then give him a long stare that says, "Bring it."

Thank you.

12. Yes, I've considered it but
it's really better for my nerves and my blood pressure to just avoid those types of conversations. I don't want to yell at my father and tell him he's a lying asshole. He's about the only person who I indulge in that respect.

21. NO. I tell them to "hold that thought." then I walk away and
don't return to them. Seriously, making shit up can be fun and all but its futile. So is any providing any facts or addition arguments.

The few friends and relatives I know who are regular Faux viewers are first class Calvin Ball players. Aside from telling them to STFU and trying very very hard to personally insult them I've found telling them to "hold that thought." and walking away is most satisfying. Especially the ones who have hunted me down to resume their river of made up shit and Faux fueled lies. One guy, a cousin, got the "hold that thought" treatment through out a whole family party, about 5 hours worth. priceless. He no longer speaks to me. yeah I won.

23. Sorry, NO
The difference between us and them is that we don't make shit up.

If it's a waste of time arguing with them then don't waste your time, but logical arguments supported by facts should always be our foundation.

24. In a society that aspires to liberty...

should is a really dangerous word.

I like making shit up, and it seems like I'm not alone. Even if I were alone, I'd still do it, for no other reasons than that I enjoy it and I am exercising my civil rights.

You might think that you are the king of 'should,' but I think that you made that shit up.

Here's to liberty.

29. OK, I'll rephrase that:
The difference between ME and them is that I don't make shit up about serious issues. Logical argument supported by facts is MY foundation.

YOU are at liberty to make shit up all you want, and I am at liberty to express my opinion about it.

Fair enough?

27. Also

It is, of course, a waste of time arguing with them, but it's a waste of their time as much as mine and the more of their time that I am wasting for my own perverse pleasure, the less they have available to devote to bothering others, who may be more susceptible to their deluded memes.

Hero, me. Humble too.
