Ohians must pay to secure Kasich home

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Officials aren't commenting on the cost of securing Ohio Gov.-elect John Kasich's private home.

Kasich and his family plan to stay in their home in Westerville, outside Columbus, rather than moving into the state's governor residence.

This means taxpayers will foot the bill for security improvements to their house.

The State Highway Patrol -- which protects the governor -- won't comment on the costs. A Kasich spokesman also refused to discuss the security arrangements.

A patrol spokesman tells the newspaper that money for the upgrades will come from a $6.4 million fund used for the governor's patrol guards and other security.

3. An Ohian is someone one O short of being an Ohioan,
I think. Kinda like one bulb short of a chandelier, or something like that.

5. Daniels did the same thing to Indiana.
Our governor's mansion is on the near north side of Indy and Mitchy Boy was afraid to leave his all-white neighborhood and live among a diverse population.

7. "improvements to their house."
Sounds more like he's using security as a loophole to get expensive home improvements at tax-payer expense. That would be very consistent with Repub values.

8. When Reagan became Governor of California, Nancy
refused to move into the governors mansion. She said it was a fire trap. Today it's a state historic park and hasn't burned down yet. So the taxpayers had to foot the bill for something she liked better, an 8000 sq. ft. home in a posh neighborhood in Sacramento.

10. That’s odd I became a California resident during
Jerry Brown’s first governorship. I clearly remember the hoopla made over his wanting to live in his own apartment. They criticized him for not moving into the newly renovated home that Nancy Reagan had just upgraded. I don’t remember that it was actually the Reagans that had refused to live in the governor’s mansion. I don’t remember any criticism leveled against them for not living in the mansion. Although there were a few jokes about the bidets.

12. Jerry slept on a mattress in his own apartment
a far cry from the mansion the Reagans left him. Here's an article about it.

9. well it's probably going to be a show pony issue
"I'm so against big gummint that I'm living in my own house instead of that fancy gubnor's man-she-un."

Of course, he'll neglect to say that now BOTH properties have to be secured and maintained at taxpayer expense.

Sort of like W's ranch was merely a political prop so he'd look more like a "regular feller."

13. I thought I read Kasich has young twins in the Westerville Sch district. I thought
Westerville was only a short drive from Columbus. I think he made too much of a stink about it.

14. What's with Governors refusing to live in Governor Residences?
It seems like an insult to taxpayers that have to fund and maintain these historical buildings, only to have their elected Governors refuse to live there.

Shouldn't it be an honor to live in the State Governor's residence?
