This blows my mind. The link goes to a craigslist ad for illegal software.

1. Pretty stupid. I don't really know much about how Craigslist works . . .
Would it be unreasonable to expect them to screen this sort of stuff out?

4. That side of things was shut down.
NOT. Code words keep the trade very much alive, even if the commodity ostensibly on offer is a refrigerator, washing machine or some other consumer good in the right approximate price range.

This however is just an idiot who has already been "alerted" and deleted. The other alternative on offer, (but now withdrawn) would have been a law enforcement honeypot conceived by someone of a similar intelectual capacity.

In either case, anyone burnt as a result of responding would and should only have themselves to blame. Just as I also have no sympathy for those who find themselves facing a booking sargeant after bying a VCR that "fell off the back of a truck".

The ONLY blame you can direct towards Craigslist here is that they obviously didn't think anyone would be so stupid with their listing that it was necessary to put counterfeit (or at least its common misspellings) on their autoalert list.
