I've been trying to understand how it came to be that a prominent and famous 62 year-old man, a confirmed skirt-chaser, but a smart guy nonetheless, would suddenly decide to commit, for the first time in his life, a horrendous act of violence, and to violently rape a total stranger, in a setting -- his own hotel suite -- where he was certain to be identified and apprehended.

This doesn't make a lot of sense.

When I read the article posted above, one possible explanation occurred to me, as follows: maybe this guy was drunk, had already called an escort for some rough play who was en route to his room, maybe there was a screw-up at the front desk and they sent the maid to clean the room in error, as reported, and when she enters the room, the IMF guy jumps her, thinking she's the escort. So was ensued was a actually a real assault, but it would also be a case of mistaken identify.

This is just a theory. I've no investment in this guy, his future, the IMF, or the legal outcome, and I await seeing justice done. It's just that the story doesn't make sense to me as it stands.

His high-profile relationship and professional meltdown a few years ago involved an inappropriate consensual relationship with an IMF staff member without any hint of compulsion, let alone violence. There are no known victims of sexual predations by him before the incident in NYC.
