Health insurance was taken away when I lost my job and became unemployed. They said I don’t qualify for the earned income deductions since I don’t work for my income, so I make too much to get Sooner care and food assistance.

She’s bruising easy, has no energy, no stamina, falling, breathless with little movement, sore muscles, cramping limbs, tired most of the time, dizzy, blurry vision and poor memory. She has terrible tummy troubles and has for years.

They never test for anything and just say she’s a faker. She eats meat and vegies. She loves salad and beef, chicken, pork. She’s not a fussy eater.

There are no hospitals that will see her since she isn’t gushing blood or have a broken bone. They treat her symptoms and tell me to take her to a primary care.

We took her to a free clinic, held once a month...there was no doctor, they were on an emergency, so the only thing we did was talked to a nurse.

The nurse thinks maybe a vitamin deficiency, charley horses affecting her arms and legs, and told her to take omeprozole OTC for her tummy and a multivitamin.

.The nurse prayed over her and said she “received” that my daughter was under attack from the occult, possibly for something she did to open the door to such an attack.

Interesting visit to say the least...we are going to try the suggested OTC meds and pray they work.

a person gets on most discussion forums. Even here. That's why asking for and giving medical advice is against the rules on DU, even in the Health Forum. It's a very good rule.

If you're sick go see a doctor. That's the only advice that is useful. Typically, anywhere on the internet, you'll get other advice, usually based on some anecdotal nonsense that doesn't even apply.

The people who told that freeper to go to the emergency room were the only ones that made any sense. That's the only real advice to follow. It sounds like some sort of acute, serious problem. That's what ERs are for, after all. If you can't pay, don't pay, but get your kid in to be checked out and don't leave until they do a proper job.

While "tummy troubles" is meaningless baby-talk, they were offered an H2-receptor agonist (stomach medicine) and not an anti-diarrheal such as loperamide, so I'm guessing the child has some kind of heartburn or queasiness. Celiac disease is characterized by diarrhea, weight loss (often severe), steatorrhea, and in children, failure to thrive. It is dx'd by a blood test and confirmed by biopsy.

I'd guess the child had at least one CBC w/diff during an office visit when the family had insurance, which would pick up an abnormal WBC, but a calcidiol 25-hydroxycholecalciferol isn't routinely done. I could go on, but I don't play doctor on the internet.

There are "Christian" medical clinics staffed by "Christian" doctors and nurses who regularly pray for their patients.

I know of one that does "ministry" to the uninsured. They have a truck that goes out once a week. It has an exam room, a doctor and some staff. I actually know somebody who has been treated from multiple health problems through this ministry for many years. Earlier this year the woman had gallbaldder surgery and all of the fees were waived for her. For whatever reason they seem to like her. She definitely is the exception

This part of the country has one of the highest populations rates of food insecurity - yet it is difficult to qualify for food assistance here. Any kind of assistance really.

The occult reference? Well that is just another overzealous, ignorant fundie who attributes everything bad to the evils of Satan. Not excusing it, mind you. The nurse should have kept her fucking mouth shut.

There are no good options here for the uninsured/underinsured.
