Plague of snakes and crocodiles threaten flood-hit Australians

THE “Biblical” flood wreaking havoc in Australia has unleashed a plague of crocs, deadly snakes and spiders.

Extra snakebite anti-venom has been airlifted into the city of Rockhampton, one of the worst-hit parts in the state of Queensland.

Mayor Brad Carter, said: “Snakes have been swimming at people’s feet as they make their way in the water.

“I know one guy killed four snakes this morning, one of which was a Taipan – the more it bites the more it injects venom that could kill.”

Resident Barry Moessinger said he had spotted about 15 snakes each day over the past week. He added: “There’s heaps of them. We had a plague of mice, a lot of frogs, so we knew the snakes would come.” .............(more)

11. I'm with you. I have a severe phobia of snakes too.

I understand they crawl into wall spaces, furniture, behind the refrig, etc. I remember reading about that after Katrina. I understand that Australia has more specimens of venomous snakes than any other country. I would never be able to sleep. I can't even stand a garter snake.
Those poor souls. We all have our own weather situations to cope with but this one is a horror. Even when the floods subside, all these displaced snakes and animals will unlikely to back home. Ugh, shivers!

When I was bike trekking in Australia, I had to spend a couple days in the Rock (Rockhampton) so I could buy a tire. There was talk of a crocodile in the river. I rode over to see if I could spot it. But it must have spotted me first.

You're certainly in the tropics there.
