I watched "Capitalism: A Love Story"" for the first time today

Great movie.

I'm hoping that Democracy triumphs over this horrible thing that we call "Capitalism" in America… But only if all the people finally stand up against the ownership class.

1. I hope so too.

However, it is a long and hard road. So many people even liberal democrats, believe that capitalism is synonymous with democracy, when in fact there have never been too systems more opposed. Democracy cannot coexist along side capitalism, because the latter will always strangle the former.

3. Michael Moore is underrated, in my opinion.

His stuff from TV Nation and just body of material from his movies is amazing.

His detractors don't have much to draw upon.

4. The only reason he's under-rated is because of the vast amouts

of money spent by big Corps, like the Health Care industry, to smear him. Wendell Potter publicly apologized to him for having participated in the campaign that spent millions of dollars on trying to smear him because of his documentary on the HC industry, 'Sicko'. But in spite of all the money they spent, he fought back.

I remember when Sanje Gupta became part of that campaign, and criticized the movie, and MM insisted on getting equal time with Gupta face to face on TV to show the public how wrong Gupta was. Gupta also ended up apologizing. Michael Moore was angrier than I've ever seen over that. Wolf Blitzer had to calm him down. And then Wendell Potter confirmed what MM thought, that millions of dollars had been spent to stop the movie from having an effect.

They had spent years of denigrating the Canadian and European HC systems and they knew that MM was about to undo all their hard work, which he did in Sicko, so they tried to stop it from getting into theaters and hired people to look into his personal life etc.

What is a shame is that more has not been done about these tactics which really are destroying our democracy.

I love MM and never fell for the propaganda against him. And I was not all that surprised to find out it was bought and paid for.

But even on leftwing forums, the propaganda had an effect and people would put him down. And now we found out they are doing the same thing to Wikileaks. Paying for smear campaigns. Imho, it should be illegal.

5. I do not mean to be condescending,

but if you had to watch that movie to feel or know you got what is going on, then you are only at the very entrance to your ultimate enlightenment on what is going on both historically and in a contemporary sense.

That movie is merely a low-level initiation on a path that, if you truly desire to remain comfortable and complacent in this current point in our history, will lead you onto more remarkable and truly unsettling understandings to come.

In that sense, it is, like life, a series of very dynamic and potentially unsettling emergences of revelations that will, hopefully, never end. When you can accept and deal with that well, you are on the very verge of a realistic and viable revolution in which you can consider yourself a part of rather than a mere observer or second-party who comments and responds, but who never acts on what is going on right now.

But actually, as a Michiganian, I live all of it and a lot more every single day.

I've lived in DC during the Reagan/Bush years, so I saw it all come down the pike first hand.

I'm quite aware of what the deal is.
