Nearly 3,000 taken to hospitals by ambulances from quake shelters (JAPAN)
TOKYO —

Nearly 3,000 evacuees living in shelters in three of the northeastern Japan prefectures worst affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami have been taken to hospital by ambulance, according to a Kyodo News survey released Tuesday.

At least 2,816 evacuees suffering from stress and poor hygienic conditions were rushed to hospitals from shelters in coastal parts of the Pacific prefectures Iwate, Fukushima and Miyagi, the survey of 15 local fire departments showed.

A total of 871 were taken to hospitals from cities and towns of Ishinomaki, Higashi-Matsuyama and Onagawa in Miyagi Prefecture while 299 were taken to hospitals from Sendai, with another 248 taken to hospitals from the Shiogama area.

In Iwate Prefecture, 298 were taken to hospitals from the Miyako area, while 149 were taken to hospitals from Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, the poll showed.

2. Nah actually this is common in long term refugee status
ignore for the moment the nuclear plants... it speaks to shoddy refugee center management. The longer this goes on, the harder it is to do this right. Short term sanitation at your local HS is not a problem. Schools are commonly used around the world. Medium to long term you start having issues.

And no, I know the issues they are probably facing, so they need help from higher rungs to get this right, and start with more PERMANENT facilities.

And radiation poisoning has some very specific symtoms. From readying the story... the symtoms they are reporting are mostly stress and bad sanitation related.

Now the cancer clusters will start popping in about two years... and go from there.

5. I rasied the sanitation since that is
stickily obvious

Some HS have kitchens so if you can get them food, they can do a pretty good job... others, not so much. Nigiri balls are fine short term (in this case) but medium to long term they are recipe for trouble. (Rice balls with some sea weed, if you are really lucky some root vegie of some kind or another)
