When was the last time you had medical insurance through your employer?

(That's if you don't have it now.)

For me, it was in 1993. I have worked since then, but none of the jobs have offered any benefits.

2. Every job I've had, although I rarely took advantage of it, because Mr. Brickbat's is always better.
Even when we're both in unions, his is always better.

6. Seems like yesterday but it was in 1997.
Every job I've worked since then offered no benefits.

USPS offered all sorts of benefits and we actually got raises.

Those were the good ole days.....

8. Always had medical insurance at every job I have ever worked
I now have Medicare because I was laid off in 2010, but decided to retire at that time, since I was already past retirement age. I had insurance at my job and I opted to keep that instead of Medicare because I had all benefits including dental, eye care and life insurance.

13. 1973 until present
In 1973 medical insurance through your employer was like a throw in with every job.

That was back when unions were setting the pattern for everyone.

Then people stopped supporting unions in America and let non-union companies begin setting the pattern for everyone and medical insurance through your employer became pretty much obsolete.

Same thing happened with guaranteed pensions.

18. 2006, I think
I had "insurance" from my work, but it was always too expensive to actually use. The last contract in 2008, had no benefits at all.

Of course I have work that needs to be done, but damned if I know how to pay for it w/o insurance. I've seriously considered moving to VT when they institute single payer.

19. 1991
And they paid every nickel of it.

From 1995 through 2005 as a self-employed person, I had none. Couldn't afford it. It was either pay the property taxes or pay for health insurance. Luckily, I remained healthy.

Was eligible for Medicare in 2006.

21. I have had it offered to me...
through my entire professional career (yes, all 7 short years).

Although I have always been a non-unionized/exempt employee, I've always worked for good companies that offer very good benefits.
Quite fortunate, actually.

I am not currently enrolled, as my wife's plan is a little more cost-effective, and it's an HSA, so we go with hers.

The deductible is a little high ($3K), but we had a baby last year, so we knew we were going to meet it anyways; and we're having another towards the end of this year, so we'll meet it again. Yay.

I guess as long as we keep having kids we'll be okay! :hide:

23. 1974, when I left my last employer and became self-employed.
I've paid my own health insurance premiums ever since. Well...now I'm on Medicare, but I'm paying for that, too, along with a supplement. It's just lots cheaper.

After that it was through my wifes employer. Since 01 when her company went bust, no insurance. So I try real hard to stay healthy and not break anything.

26. Lost mine in 2003.
Always had it, no matter how menial the job, until then. I worked in a restaurant that cut back my hours until I didn't have enough to maintain the plan. I couldn't afford the COBRA, either. I just got insurance again, after being without for the last seven years. The reason I have insurance now is because I got legally married this past November and I'm now on my husband's plan. We'll be having an actual wedding in July. In the old days, people used to announce an engagement first, rather than eloping to get on a spouse's insurance plan.
