He called the hotel, looking for a cellphone he left behind.

At that point, the NYPD detectives told the hotel staff to tell him that they had the phone, and that they would deliver it to him--where was he?

DSK told them, and the NYPD sent the cops to pull him off the plane.

I don't know if he did leave a cell phone--or, if he was calling the hotel to see if there were any problems. I've heard of cliens that stupid...
