Great idea to allow cats to be outside without getting eaten up by the local wildlife... or eating up the local wildlife!
http://www.oregonlive.com/pets/index.ssf/2011/05/pet_talk_catios_give_indoor_ca.htmlIn the age-old debate about whether cats belong outdoors or indoors, it turns out there's some middle ground.
It's called a "catio": an enclosed space that allows cats to experience the outdoors without the risks. They range from do-it-yourself projects to ready-made modular pieces you can order online, and they come in as many shapes and sizes as your imagination allows.
"We're finding that that is a good compromise for people who want their kitty to have a little fresh air," says Kathy Covey, public relations manager for the Cat Adoption Team. The cat shelter has a policy of adopting cats to indoor-only homes, but they do take catios into consideration.
