I was not deceived, I paid attention .............
I KNEW Obama was an imperfect man coming into an impossible situation facing a hate filled bunch of people, a good number of them not liking him because the skin that was determined to be placed on his bones without his consent.

I also know what the Obama promise meter says (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/) and I wont be deceived by the loud mouths and pissed off who constantly blinded by one or many of life's narrowing blinders.

There's a good man runnin thangs, good...............not perfect or even great.................good, for me that's all he needs to be right now.

Regards.

PS - 87% of liberal democrats aren't deceived either...

15. I voted for the most progressive, anti-war, candidate on the ballot.
Didn't hurt a bit and didn't require wear and tear on my nose.

32. He was referring to Iraq as the "dumb war." He always said he would accelerate in Afghanistan.
President Obama is doing exactly what Candidate Obama said he would do regarding Afghanistan and going after bin Laden, both specifically in response to 9-11.

I do agree it's time to get out of the ME altogether.

Can't blame the Republicans for picking wall street/lobbyists/CEO's for his administration. That's all on him.

8. I've learned as an old liberal, that I will never be completely happy with any Dem president.
I am far too liberal. However, Obama is far better than what we had or would have with a republican. So I can't have it all? So what? That's just like. I can still fight for what I believe in and I will.

I don't know why some people think they will ever find their perfect candidate. They don't exist.

11. With Clinton for me it was DADT, DOMA and Rwanda.
It's good to see now that Clinton himself realizes that all three were mistakes.

With Obama, my biggest disappointment has been not considering single payer or really pushing for the public option and pushing back hard on Lieberman. I think he could have done more. However, I hope this health care reform effort will have another act to follow. I'll just wait this out...

10. I was deceived and I did pay attention.
He signed the American Freedom campaign's pledge which was as follows:

"We are Americans, and in our America we do not torture, we do not imprison people without charge or legal remedy, we do not tap people's phones and emails without a court order, and above all we do not give any President unchecked power.

"I pledge to fight to protect and defend the Constitution from attack by any President."

He said he was for a public option. We did not receive one nor did he push it.

He was not originally for a health insurance mandate.

He said he was against extending the Bush Tax Cuts and then struck a deal extending them.

He did not claim to want to proceed with more domestic offshore oil drilling.

There are many more examples but it isn't all us not paying attention.

I've seen the most right-wing of DUers made a point of labeling themselves "liberals" and "progressives". I don't think the self identification is meaningful.

Edited on Tue May-17-11 03:52 PM by demwing
and it is inconvenient how the facts get in the way of seeing what you want to see.

For instance, the "Obama promise meter" that you linked to lists 7 promises made by Obama, and only 1 kept. Sadly, closing Gitmo, ending the Bush tax cuts for billionaires, and securing a Public Option didn't make the list.

So that's 1 in 10 for promises kept.

...1 in 10...

Good grief....

19. You had me until "runnin thangs." I hate that poser shit. But on substance you're right.
I agree the president is a pragmatic guy more interested in maintaining the empire and making life easier for the middle class. I expected as much from him and am getting an only slightly less ballsy version of what I voted for. He's never "sold us out", despite being entirely too nice and too accommodating to the Republicans at times. He's done his job okay. I'm grateful he's there.

Still... "runnin thangs"? Pu-lease.

and i don't think Obama is even CLOSE to a good president at all. yes republicans are worse, but at some point we'll either have to stop voting for the lesser of two evils - or destroy the planet.

*said he would put on comfortable shoes and walk the line with LABOR.

*said that he would renegotiate NAFTA

*ridiculed Hillary during the debates for supporting MANDATES to BUY Health Insurance,
and explained in detail why MANDATES were BAD for Working Americans.

*ran on a Public Option

*ridiculed McCain's "Cadillac Tax"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8wmN3wvhNM&feature=player_embedded

*said he would not renew the Bush Tax Cuts

*said he would restore America's Moral High Ground lost during the War on Terror

What he has been able to push through, given the circumstances, has been pretty impressive.
