Girl, 10, ‘amazed’ by kindness of others as she battles cancer
Claire Rogers has rarely shed a tear while being treated for the childhood leukemia that's ravaged her delicate frame.
Only after one particularly painful set of spinal injections did the 10-year-old Tamworth girl burst into tears — and it had nothing to do with the treatment.
She couldn't hold back the tears of joy after she opened a special get well card from a friend.
It contained "before and after" shots — one of her pal's smiling face, framed by long, shiny tresses and another after her chum had shorn her locks and donated them to a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.
...
Claire's aunt attended a benefit dance held for her niece Saturday. It drew about half the town — more than 500 people — to the local arena and recreation centre. In total it raised about $30,000 for the Rogers family.
