LOL !!! - Freepers Fighting Over Captain Honors...
and isn't THAT the most ironic of names for this situation???

To: GeronL

Someone with that bad of judgement shouldn’t be running an aircraft carrier anyways.

Says who? YOU???What are your qualifications to judge a senior naval officer. You need to take your pedophile inspired worries about Japan to some other thread and not worry about the real men that defend this country. You and your holyier than though bunch you hang out with here on FR are making a mockery of this site.

1. Glad to see they were thrilled Holly Graf was booted from the Navy
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 08:33 PM by NuclearDem
...because she was lesbian, not because she was engaged in misconduct.

And they turn right around and talk about a homophobe 'witch hunt'. I really hope they don't drown in the irony.

You can tell who the people with ACTUAL service time are over at FR...they're the ones who are actually making some sense when they're talking about this. The rest are just the 101st Chairborne, Homophobe Company chiming in.

2. "holyier"
Those poor, stupid, motherfuckers. Has there ever, in the history of freeperdom, been a post on that site where every word was spelled correctly? I doubt it. Dumbasses.

7. Count me among those Navy vets who don't think PC should end the careers of those
who "stand on the fence" at night and command aircraft carriers at sea.

Now the Enterprise goes to sea for an extended deployment with a Captain who hasn't commanded her during her workups or Operational Readiness Evaluation. Way for the Navy Brass to run for cover... way to go Navy!

10. If it's politically correct to hold officers to a standard that involves not calling his sailors...
f*****s and bleeding hearts and making sexually-toned videos while he's in command of an aircraft carrier, then I love being PC.

What's worse for the Enterprise, sending it out with someone who might be unfamiliar with the Enterprise but otherwise a capable captain, or having a captain who's fostering an environment that leads to homophobia and sexual assault?

They should bring in a new captain who'll lay down the ground rules: sexual misconduct isn't a 'joke' for use in training videos, and use of homophobic slurs will NOT be tolerated on the ship.

15. I've been posting here about my gay Daughter since she came out two years ago and supporting
GLBT causes since before that. I will respectfully say though that on this issue I'm not backing down. PC isn't a reason for ending the career of a Naval Officer whom the Navy at one time deemed responsible enough to command a ship armed with enough nuclear weapons to render whole continents unlivable. Reprimand him, censure him, put a ceiling over his head and inform him that his career will end after the duty of commanding the ship through this deployment is done. Do whatever, but don't put the lives of 5,500 Sailors and Marines in jeopardy over the issue of political correctness.

Leighton "Snuffy" Smith went on to command US Naval Forces Europe and the NATO led IFOR in Bosnia concurrently after saying MANY worse things than faggot on the closed circuit television system onboard the USS America (CV-66) while I sailed with her.

I say these things without shame as the father of a Gay Teenager.

The new captain of the Enterprise was the captain of the Eisenhower. Isn't the Eisenhower a larger, more modern nuclear air craft carrier? Mewbourne is more than qualified to take Honors command.

Captain Mewbourne most recently commanded USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). While in command, the ship completed two combat deployments supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and received the Ramage, Admiral Flatley Memorial, CNO Environmental Quality, SECDEF Maintenance, and Golden Anchor awards.

The Enterprise has the XO under Honors who is still the XO of the Enterprise, he is familiar with the ship and the crew.

If Honors died he would be replaced without putting the lives of the crew in danger.

Your dramatics don't work, they are a bunch of crap and have nothing at all to do with the truth and cannot defend Honors dishonor of the Navy code of conduct and regulations.

His judgment is flawed if he thinks becoming a frat boy to entertain the morale of the crew is more important than the Navy regs and policies, is more important than the honor of ALL of the crew. A superior officer with such flawed judgment doesn't belong in a position of trust in the military at any time, especially at a time of war. Too many have explained away his offensive and sophomoric behavior because we are at war. That explanation doesn't work either as we we need adults, not children and certainly not frat boys, commanding the troops when we are at war.

21. Thank you
I just am so tired of reading all the crap trying to defend this idiot and/or explain away his wrongs.

That Honors made the videos and starred in them is simply the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. He is either a complete idiot or so arrogant he believes he is above the law. And really, they are not even funny and this guy is supposed to be their commanding officer, not their BFF.

19. This isn't about being PC at all
This is about not having officers disparaging (jokingly or not) the people under their command. It's detrimental to good order and discipline if junior enlisted or lower-ranking officers think their Captain isn't going to be open to them if they come to him with a complaint. It actually fosters an environment of distrust among the crew...and that causes more danger in the warzone than replacing the captain.

It was the same thing when one of the top commanders in CENTCOM told a joke where the Air Force was the punchline...yeah, the lower-ranking folks say it all the time, but having someone that high up make a punchline out of people under their command is just plain insulting.

12. A Song For Captain Honors...
Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
Though I'm feeling mighty sick.

I've been lost now, days uncounted,
And it's months since I've seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Or am I all alone.

If you return me, to my home port,
I will kiss you mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
To the port of my birth.

Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming,
To take my ship away from me?

You'd better think about it, I just can't live without it.
So, please don't take my ship from me.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ...
