7. I am certainly not anyone who would have knowledge of such practices....

....but perhaps that is the custom amongst stars and prominent people to "borrow" items of jewelry for special events, and that is how Tiffany's keeps up with their loaned items, as collateral until they are returned. Gingrich would probably rather people thought he "bought" the items than "rented" them.
