I don't know why people ignore the difference. There are almost no true "pro-life" republicans. Do they support the death penalty? Are they pro-war? And as Rhandi Rhodes says, they want to protect the fetus and allow the child to starve. Stop calling republicans "pro-life." It's a lie. They are anti-choice.

3. Exactly. How many times do we have to stake this vampire?
No matter how one feels about abortion itself, obstructing women's choices kills. It's also misogynist, discriminatory and wrong.

6. The pro-life/pro-choice labels only apply to abortion.
Someone can be pro-choice, and still support the war on drugs.

Likewise, someone can be pro-life and still support the death penalty.

10. Pro-life means abortion should be illegal in most or all situations. nt

11. I disagree
I think republicans want it to mean that they support "life." But like more RW talking points, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I think it highlights there hypocrisy.

15. I think they think they do support life. If you really believe fetuses are babies,
then being against abortion makes more sense.

My mom is against abortion because she views fetuses as babies. I am pro-choice, I have spoken with her about abortion, and I think she is really sincere.

17. However, if you think fetuses are "babies" and abortion is murder,
then you can't call yourself "pro-life" and also support an exception for cases of rape or incest.

20. The abortion pro-life labels is stupid and yet accepted.
The opposite of Pro-life would be anti-life.
That makes no sense. Those who favor abortions being legal don't oppose babies being born? Most of us have babies. We just don't want that choice being forced on people

The opposite of Pro-choice would be anti-choice and that is simple and clear and true.

There have been occasions where I'm asked if I am pro-life. I say yes very firmly. As the conversation goes on my position becomes clear. To me being pro-life is honoring life and what that entails... and part of it is honoring the right to choose

If zygotes grew in a pod and not in a woman we could have a different conversation

21. I agree the label "pro-life" is laughable when applied to the average Republican.
But Republicans are awesome at marketing; e.g., The Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, those are great names for horrible programs.

7. They're also anti-baby.
They want to force innocent babies to be raised by women who don't want them :(

9. I disagree with that last part.
They are more than happy to push the baby into adoption. But then they don't want to support the adoption process.

13. And they would ask back - if you are against death penalty and war, why not against abortion?
If the left is pro-life, why not respect the life of those you carry inside you and why don't you want to nurture it and take care of it?

Me - I am all for your body, your choice - across the board. Sadly, it gets me labeled a libertarian when I apply it to issues other than abortion.

14. I don't have a problem with that question.
I just find the label "pro-life" dishonest in most cases.

16. So I guess we are at the point here of defining life
If someone is pro-life - does that mean they are against war, death penalty and abortion?

How do we define life and what it means to take a life? Do we see life as something growing inside of someone or do we see it as something that only exists outside of others?

If you have total control of a life form growing inside of you, do you think it wrong to terminate that life or do you think it is ok to do so because it is dependent on you?

18. They're pro-abortion
They steadfastly stand in the way of any effort to reduce the rate of abort through education, health care and contraception. If the rate of abortion fell by these means, the pro-abortionist, Right Wing fetus worshippers would have a fit.

Woman and children hating is their bread and butter, never mind the fact that they're scared of any woman having a good time screwing. With them, it's all about outrage. They need it, like you and I need air to breathe. Common sense and compassionate approaches to reducing the rate of abortion to just the need for emergency intervention even is a non-starter for these fools. And even if it just was for emergency intervention of WANTED pregnancies, they'd rather let the woman DIE.

You're quite right, they're not "Pro-Life" at all… They're Anti-Woman, Anti-Freedom, Anti-Compassion and Anti-Common Sense.
