Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle said today she won't run in a special election for a U.S. House seat in Nevada, saying the process is a "mockery."
Angle, a former state legislator who gained national attention last year as Nevada's GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate, did not disclose her future political plans.
"I do not have any desire to participate in a process described by others as a 'ballot royale' or a situation where the party central committees choose their nominees because it makes a mockery of the most important constitutional element in exercising freedom," Angle said in a statement.
A court ruling allowing the state party committees to pick their nominees in the 2nd Congressional District is being appealed to the Nevada Supreme Court. There is a vacancy because Republican Dean Heller was appointed to the U.S. Senate.
The special election will be held on Sept. 13.
