House bans funds for teaching abortion techniques
House bans funds for teaching abortion techniques

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House voted Wednesday to ban teaching health centers from using federal money to train doctors on how to perform abortions, the latest in a series of anti-abortion measures pushed by the Republican majority.

The author of the measure, Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., said she wanted to make it "crystal clear that taxpayer money is not being used to train health care providers to perform abortion procedures."

The proposal was presented as an amendment to the latest of several GOP bills to restrict funding for the health care act that was enacted last year. This bill gives Congress control over spending for a program to encourage health centers to provide training to medical residents. The amendment applies to funding in that grant program.

The Foxx amendment passed 234-182 despite the objections of some Democrats that it would prevent health centers from teaching a basic medical technique that can be critical to saving a woman's life during emergencies.

3. They want government out of THEIR business (i.e. corporations, guns, religion)
but they want government in OUR bedrooms, marriage ceremonies, and, of course genitals. :eyes: :puke:

4. Exactly
They don't want anyone telling them what to do, but they certainly want the government to tell everyone else what to do. It's never really about fiscal conservatism - it's always really about social conservatism. I don't understand why people always fall for it, too.

They harped about jobs, but every time I turn around it seems like Republicans are eliminating jobs.

IMHO 2010 was a MASSIVE political "bait-and-switch" operation hatched by the Republican Tea Party at the state and federal levels. Hopefully, some of those "errors" will be corrected soon (i.e. Walker, Snyder) and that other states being run by "psychotic stepdads" will elect more Democrats to state legislatures in other places like Ohio, Maine, Florida, etc. to help keep them in "check" until 2014 when they can be removed from office. Oh, and I hope that Democrats win back the House and keep the Senate and WH. "Divided government" has been a disaster so far.

9. of course. but, then- what would happen to the wire hanger business?
I knew girls who tried to abort their own babies here in Texas.
It is medically and socially necessary whenever it is done.
I dread the outcome.

6. Women's lives and health are irrelevant to the GOP -- a few deaths and ...
we'll see the outcry -- but it will be too late then.

Rightwing continuing its war on women!

7. Time to send a donation to Medical Students for Choice
Very few medical schools teach abortion techniques as it is. I feel so good knowing that to these people dogma trumps my health.

8. Again, just what does this have to do with creating jobs?
This was their agenda all along and a pox on those that voted for them...

10. Well
There will be a big need for undertakers for the women who die because their doctor doesn't know how to perform an abortion that would have saved their lives.

instruction on performing basic D & Cs?

Hmmm... wonder if that kook Virginia Foxx even knows that an early surgical abortion can be almost indistinguishable from a D & C? Or that the latter is a standard gynecological practice?

12. What's next? banning funds to teach vasectomies and tube tying?
Because it interferes with God's demand that we be fruitful and multiply?
