Rep. Dennis Kucinich won't assign blame in Syria, questions 'retributive justice' against Bin Laden

Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich won't assign blame for the current unrest in Syria that has led several European governments to request United Nations condemnation of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government for attacking peaceful protesters.

Kucinich met with the Syrian leader during a 2007 visit to the Middle East, where he applauded Assad's acceptance of Iraqi refugrees during an interview on Syrian television. He said then that Assad "showed a real desire to play a role in helping to create a peaceful settlement of the conditions in Iraq as well as a grander approach towards creating peace."

During a Wednesday interview with The Plain Dealer, Kucinich said protesters in Syria are making legitimate demands for reform, but some there are trying to "capitalize on those legitimate demands for reform and use it push a violent agenda."

"We also understand that there's very serious questions raised about the conduct of the Syrian police, but we also know the Syrian police were fired upon and that many police were murdered," Kucinich continued.

7. No! Knee jerk reactionary is the only acceptable setting
We all know that every last person fomenting unrest in Syria is a heavenly angel in human form, fighting the good fight against an oppressive dictatorship. The government of Syria is all black, the rebels are all white, just like in Libya. At least this week. Next week? We might be BFFs with Qaddafi and Assad again, but for now, it's armed rebellion time, even if we don't know what might fill the vacuum.

And how can anyone possibly be opposed to the "justice" of the extra-judicial murder of Osama bin Laden? "Everyone" said he was a very, very bad person. And all the right people called it "justice." So there you are! And any breaches of our Constitution or treaties is okay this time because, as mentioned, bin Laden was very, very bad. We save our consideration of the law for those who deserve it. It makes sense somewhere, now just quit bringing that up, Dennis.
