Really funny conversation last night at a restaurant:

So here I am on the Main Line of Philadelphia, leaving this nice Italian restaurant in Ardmore, housed in a converted bank building. After a delicious dinner of Rigatoni and not-too-spicy sausage, Mrs. Intern decided to utilize the 'facility' whilst I cooled my heels in the lobby. There was a pleasant looking lady in her late 60's gathering herself together and she said,

She: It's so hot out...and after all that cold and rain that we have, it's just so strange. I've never seen anything like it in all my born days. (they talk like that out here...it's sort of snotty-countrified)

Me: Well you know that Climate change stuff may be at work here...

She: Oh, I don't believe that for a minute. It's just a lot of made-up hokum. ('hokum'? Wow..)

Me: But didn't you just initiate the conversation with me that you'd never seen any weather like this before?

She: The weather has nothing to do with Climate...

Me: Oh...

Woman's Husband coming out of Men's room jocularly: Are you coming on to my wife? (He was laughing, so this wasn't an issue)

Me: Well, we're already in an argument so our relationship has progressed quickly.

He: I know what you mean.

So the 'climate' has nothing to do with the 'weather'...this is the level upon which these people operate. And these are the educated, pseudo-elite crowd.

4. Great Comeback!

I'm in Memphis where I encounter people who just refuse to believe that we carry a responsibility toward the heating of our planet. I was very surprised to open the paper the other morning (after a night of CRAZY weather) and on the front page in huge print was this:

Wild weather: Scientists see strong ties between global warming, recent events

I was very surprised and somewhat pleased that the news actually put this out there.

How many people have to die, have their homes destroyed, crops wiped out, food shortages and more before we begin to pay attention and see what we can do as humans to take better care of our planet and our future?

5. I know people who absolutely believe global warming is a gigantic hoax

And only yesterday they were convinced that there's climate change going on.

I've tried explaining that one or two degrees can cause more humidity in the air which in turn is why snow storms, tornadoes and hurricanes as well any weather becomes more intense and severe. They think global warming means it has to be very hot with droughts and no rain, and they claim that if the North Pole melts it means the South Pole is compensating by having more snow.

Facts only confuse them.

If it snows, they say that there can't be warming since it snowed...and that means 'of course' that it's colder. when it was -4 when Gore got his Prize, they were saying 'so much for global warming', except that it's usually -12...WTF do I know??

Here in Michigan, we have some rural areas that
trend republican, but we also have a huge chunk

The saying comes from his time in PA for the Casey campaign. That was a hard-fought, balls out, bitter fight.*** Later, when Al Gore was Clinton's running mate, Carville used Alabama so as to not offend a state we had a chance of carrying.
