“Spiritual consciousness is the highest form of politics.” – John Mohawk

I've always liked the above quote, which was part of the message that the Iroquois delivered at their September, 1977 presentation to the Non-Governmental Organizations of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

It's been a busy time here. For over a week, a couple of young television reporters have been spending time with me, both in my home and out on some local historic sites. They are preparing a three-part report on the connection between Earth consciousness and the struggle against the international energy corporations that are seeking to exploit the environment for “natural” gas. (Why don't these corporations speak of “natural” coal?)

Yesterday afternoon was spent in meetings with an interesting range of people: area Democratic Left leaders, Greens, and socialists; and the attorney for the Onondaga Nation. I was surprised by the amount of interest in my recently being elected to the school board in my community; as I've noted previously on this forum, my opponent is employed by the gas industry, and had been pressuring the board to lease some school property for drilling. This is their newest tactic, at a time when schools are experiencing budget crunches.

I learned a great deal there, as well as at the public meeting that followed. This was attended by a number of regional citizens who had previously leased their lands, for a variety of reasons, only to find that they were being betrayed. Many said they believed the “land men” who told them that they represented a “small, local company”; that all their neighbors had signed; and that it was a patriotic way to “bring an American soldier home.” Now, they find the lease has been sold to a foreign corporation, and that the gas isn't aimed at the American market.

Years ago, I really enjoyed dealing with the press, addressing public meetings and rallies, and the like. Now, I'm old, and would rather be left alone. But that doesn't seem to be in the cards right now. The young reporters want to do an hour-long program; another person called to ask me to speak about clean water to a regional rally in NYS; some democratic leaders have asked me to consider running for a state office, when I haven't even been sworn-in on the school board.

“Strange days, indeed. Most peculiar.”

Peace,
H2O Man

1. I'd love for you to run for state office.
You could remain a school board member, if you have the energy, that is.

Even if you don't, your contribution matters.

Great photo, BTW; old buttons, bones, and a mouth harp?

Most members of the majority
and those in the minority want to do good.
Thankfully.

Sometimes all it takes is the proper person to wake them up.

5. I like spiritual stuff, and I have been betrayed many times.
It doesn't change anything. It is not like what I share is me paying anything, nor losing anything.

It is sharing the beautiful thoughts that are all over. If someone uses them without the appreciation they deserve, then they answer to someone else, not a pool playing grocery clerk.

But I think about stuff like that, mostly about literalist changing the meaning of everything.

I mention dig, they mention drill for oil. I am talking about finding that beautiful learning in something, they are talking about some energy policy for profit.

I mention the story of finding love in the nick of time in a beautiful song, and how I think about the story of Abraham from it. Although also knowing it is about many other narratives. And they turn that into about telling people what they have to do in other situations.

I watch some really great movies, and like what they say, and share that, maybe some take that and use it for something else, but if they do, who would they answer to? Not a grocery clerk that plays pool.

But going to post good songs, and think on the many spiritual meanings, while waiting for the beer and travel money that is due to be sent. And I have been in a state of 'being betrayed' for years, many years. That does not change my choices of trying to be nice and sharing so many wonderful things that are out there.

Most of the stuff I see on TV in stuff, could be seen in the perspective of betrayal, it also could be people working for the same goals, that does not mean I don't have to be nice to people, and it does not mean they are taking anything from me, becuase they can not take what belongs to everyone.

That is how I think of the spiritual.

But I do know many people have been doing wrong with great stuff, that really isn't my concern. I also know many great people have been doing good stuff, and sharing many great thoughts in songs and stories.

I also presume there are many people that see the same stuff, and it would be fun to talk with them about their ideas.

7. I have found a lot of people who support natural gas exploration expansion,
fracking, as well as traditional oil drilling expansion seem to think all that would somehow be reseved for us to "reduce our dependence on foreign oil" instead of being sold on the open market and to be so insequential as to not really reduce prices. But that is the big monied propaganda thrust anyway.

I'm glad people are seeing the wisdom of you in government whether school board or state office.
