Anti-military protest fills Cairo square

CAIRO — Thousands of protesters returned to downtown Cairo's Tahrir Square Friday for what they called a "second revolution," calling for Egypt's military rulers to speed up the pace of democratic reforms in a country that is still charting its political future.

Protesters carried banners reading the "Egyptian revolution is not over" and chanted the slogan.

Christians and Muslims took turns praying in Tahrir Square, as they did in the protests that forced the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak in February. Sectarian clashes have turned deadly since the revolution.

The ruling military warned that "dubious" elements may try to cause chaos during Friday's protests, and said it would stay clear of the protest area to avoid any friction.

1. I had a conversation about just this last night...

this woman I know, who's a friend of my gf, incredibly smart (currently going for her doctorate in linguistics), had zero idea about what was currently going on in Egypt. She thought that the protesting was over and they had instituted democratic rule.

I couldn't contain myself. I just said, "the people want democracy, but that is certainly not what they will get".

She was visibly shocked by this.

It's out of the headlines. The fake good news of a "revolution and the people winning" is now the meme. Not the truth that they are just as oppressed as before.

Like someone else said on here a few weeks ago, it's not in the best interests of the US for Egyptian government to have a Democracy.

2. First "revolution", was definitely a CIA operation

Mubarak himself was probably in on it. He is getting ready to die and the US needed to make sure the right people were in complete control before he kicked the bucket and left a power vacuum.

I could be wrong but that sure is what it looked like from my perspective. Classic CIA operation.
