Texas Governor Rick Perry says he'll consider a 2012 Presidential run

Gov. Rick Perry today gave his strongest indication yet that he may run for president.

“I’m going to think about it” after the legislative session ends Monday, Perry said. He added, “But I think about a lot of things.”

For years, Perry has said that he would not run for president and that he had no interest in the job. He has often said that he has said no to the presidential question in as many ways as he could.

But he and his advisers have inched closer to saying he may run all week, following the announcement that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels would not enter the GOP field. A couple of days ago, he told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News that a run was tempting.

Many conservatives have called on Perry to enter a field which could have room for a social and fiscal conservative with Perry’s energy and charisma. And, intentionally or not, the governor has set himself up for a run over the last couple of years, making a Texas/Washington contrast the focus of his 2010 re-election and writing a book called “Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America From Washington.”

The GOP primary is shaping up to be one heck of a circus this time around. I wonder what would happen if Perry and his BFF Palin ended up running against each other in the primary? It be interesting to see just how the votes in Texas were split up between the two of them if nothing else. A blow to Perry's ego like that could cause his hair to deflate! :evilgrin:

I was living in Austin in '04 - '05 when rumors exploded about GoodHair's (male) chief of staff being something rather more than an assistant. The Perry family was whisked out of town for an unscheduled vacation, and the streets were flooded with Rovian "cleaners". A couple of days of increasingly surprising rumors in local media followed by deafening silence.

What you do in your spare time is your business, Ricky, but the level of hypocrisy is absolutely vile.

Perry is an able politician. If the economy continues to deteriorate for non-Wall Street Amercia, Pres. Obama can be beat by Perry.

The man can only win in Texas with half the vote for Pete's sake! In Texas, mind you. Which is one of the reasons I'm surprised to see Perry considering this. He's usually not the type to want to draw media attention to his mistakes. But in this case he's having his ego fanned but good.

The roll they're going to use him in is to rile up the religious right. He's a pro guns and god, anti gay and abortion teaser.

10. I'm Also Worried About A Perry Candidacy

I also worry about a Rick Perry candidacy. Not so much because Perry's policies haven't been absolutely horrible--they have been, but because of his likely treatment in the corporate media. I am very much afraid that the arrogant, lazy, pretentious @ss-clowns who populate the newsrooms of newspapers, broadcast, and cable media will give Governor Goodhair the same sort of frequent-liar free pass they gave George Dubya Bush. They'll fall over themselves to lap up his public relations puff pieces and right-wing propaganda while paying just about as much attention to his awful record as Texas Governor as an ADD six year old would give to a space shuttle pilot's launch briefing. When the occasional progressive succeeds in battering their way past the walls of their Beltway Ivory Tower to ask them why they haven't bothered to publish or even research Ricky's political record, they'll shrug their shoulders and write off such concern as "liberal hysteria."

The Founding Father intended that the Press was to be an additional check on the arrogance and pretensions of elected officials in the US. Unfortunately for us and for the American media, the "lame-stream" media has failed MISERABLY to provide any scrutiny or oversight of any right-wing elected or appointed official.

This would seemingly give him a more compelling candidacy than the supposedly serious Huntsman bid.
