"Mitch McConnell agrees with Bill Clinton on Medicare" (keeps quoting Bill to deflect Dem attacks)
Edited on Fri May-27-11 08:49 PM by ClarkUSA
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is leveraging an unusual ally to provide his party with cover from Democratic attack on the Paul Ryan budget and Medicare reform: Bill Clinton.

In an extended question-and-answer session with reporters Friday, McConnell name-dropped the former Democratic president several times. It seemed like the answer to any question — whether on how many trillions need to be saved in a deal to raise the debt limit or what the Democrats’ victory in a New York special election meant for 2012 — started with the same refrain. “Let me quote President Clinton,” McConnell would begin...

“All this silly talk about how Medicare is not going to be part of the solution is nonsense,” McConnell said. “Let me just quote President Clinton … I don’t think the Democrats or the Republicans, said President Clinton, should conclude from that New York race that no changes can be made in Medicare. Medicare will be a part of any agreement.”

McConnell was referring to a speech Clinton gave Wednesday at the Peter Peterson Foundation Fiscal Summit in which the former president claimed that while the special election in New York’s 26th congressional district “was about Medicare,” Democrats should be wary of using it as a reason to do nothing... And it was enough to give McConnell, and perhaps Republicans going forward, a way to go on the offensive against Democrats... When asked specifically about the race and again about the Ryan budget, the Kentucky Republican said he hated to be redundant, but “I can only quote President Clinton again, you cannot deal with our biggest crisis… without Medicare. Medicare will be part of the solution.”

Hey, DINO DLC Bill! Get a clue from "do nothing" Nancy Pelosi: "Democrats have a plan. It's called Medicare!"

1. Maybe Republicans will send Clinton a bunch of roses, or a case of beer.
From their perspective, he's earned it.

2. I knew it
Bill Clinton needs to go away forever. We dont need him for anything. His time is over and he just causes problems when he sticks his nose into the dems business. This is like that whole thing with Andrew Romanoff and Joe Sestak, where Bill tried to give them an incentive to not run or something and it turned into this big semi-controversy.

I also for the life of me cant understand why he said what he said to Ryan. Why would he say that the dems might use the election as an excuse to do nothing? What he said isn't particularly controversial but its just confusing.

3. McConnell quoted Bill Clinton five times in a 23-minute news conference today.
<< I also for the life of me cant understand why he said what he said to Ryan. Why would he say that the dems might use the election as an excuse to do nothing? What he said isn't particularly controversial but its just confusing. >>

Because he's a DINO who conspired with Newt Gingrich in the 90's while he was president to enact Medicare "reform" (click on the relevant OP link for more information on this). I also suspect Bill has other reasons:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1180862&mesg_id=1180949

President Obama has already said forcefully that he will refuse to sign any budget plan that reduces Medicare benefits and Democrats in Congress have been echoing him successfully (see NY-26 results). This FUBAR by DINO DLC Bill totally sabotages the WH and their Democratic allies' united efforts to reject the Ryan plan. I wish he would just go away and STFU.

BTW, in the ABC News video exchange, Paul Ryan said he would be calling Bill. Isn't that just great? :sarcasm:

5. Clinton's credibility is zip. Let McConnel quote Sanders, and see how that goes.
Oh yeah, cuz that wouldn't work for them, would it?

And that's the difference.

Some people might fall for that "Clinton says" schtick, but a lot of us never will again. Not from Paul Ryan's mentor. :puke:
