Do you like Weiner?

I have to say, Anthony Weiner is one of my favorite politicians these days. I like his style and his quick thinking and I like his message.

But, damn it cracks me up when I see his website and see that is is "Paid for by Friends of Weiner". I think paying to be a friend of Weiner is illegal in many southern states.

It won't be a bone of contention. The Germans made sure there were none of us left of that family with that name and that pronunciation.

the o-e combination is an Anglicized way of writing the German O with the umlaut (those two dots over a vowel thingie). It's not really pronounce Bay but is more like what you get if you try to say a long E and a long O at the same time. Bay is the best us anglophones can come up with.

23. It's German pronunciation. Other German words are pronounced in non-English ways, too.

For example, pronounce "Reuters." That word is also German, and one might similarly ask how one gets ""ROY-ters" from "REU-ters."

They simply don't have all the same letter/phoneme equivalences that English does.

Other languages also "violate" our pronunciation rules. For example, no one expects to pronounce "Juan" as "Joo-an" (except, of course for Lord Byron!).

(For the record, German is not one of the languages I have studied.)

He's one of a very few that I donate to (only 2 of those are from my state but he isn't 1 of them - my governor and 1 senator), and I'm on his email list. I sign most of his action petitions (those that I've been aware of, I've been "for" all that I've seen so far).

Same for Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Al Franken, and a few more. I can't afford anything really, but I find a little bit anyway for the "good few" in Congress who matter that much to us little people.
