MINNEAPOLIS - A $50,000 settlement has been reached in a case stemming from the police raid of a St. Paul home two days before the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Sarah Coffey, Erin Stalnaker and Kris Hermes announced Thursday they settled their case with the city of St. Paul and the federal government.

Under terms of the settlement, individual officers and agents are dismissed. Defense attorney Jason Hiveley says insurance companies for the city and federal government will cover the payment.

Individual officers and agents are dismissed. I hope that means fired and it's not a misprint.

2. $50K? That barely covers atty fees.
especially when litigating in federal court.

6. Wasn't there a story
Edited on Fri May-27-11 11:19 AM by Mojorabbit
that stated that they were not too worried re lawsuits for their behavior as they had been given insurance or money up front( a bond?) to cover it ahead of time?
50 grand is nothing in compensation.

on edit wikipedia has this
In 2008, St. Paul required the RNC to buy liability insurance to cover the police for legal fees and judgments arising from legal complaints by protesters

so really the state and in the future states will have no problem using similar techniques, just buy insurance prior to the event to cover the lawsuits.

7. that's true
It's a hollow victory but still as the recipients intend to donate the $50,000 to progressive organizations it's at least something.

3. I bet it is a misprint.
Probably the writer meant to say that suits against individuals and agents are dismissed. I hope I am wrong.

8. This is the best part:
"Under terms of the settlement, individual officers and agents are dismissed."

These thugs need to suffer personally for their thuggery.
