U.S. Companies Added 297,000 Jobs in December, ADP Says
Companies in the U.S. boosted payrolls in December by the most since records began in 2001, showing a stronger labor-market recovery at the end of last year, data from a private report showed today.

Employment increased by 297,000, exceeding the highest projection in a Bloomberg News survey, after a revised 92,000 rise in November, according to figures from ADP Employer Services. The median estimate in the Bloomberg survey called for a 100,000 gain last month.

2. "Today’s ADP report showed an increase of 27,000 workers in goods-producing industries"
"It was the biggest gain since February 2006 and the second straight rise. Service providers added 270,000 workers, the 11th straight gain and the most since record-keeping began."

3. It's going to take a lot more than 27K production jobs per month to do any good.

5. This is 3x what economists predicted so clearly its more than just the typical holiday bump..
I think this could be the beginning of a big hiring trend. There is tremendous built up demand and many companies have been hoarding cash. Of course there is reason to skeptical but this along with a number of other recent positive jobs related reports signals good news to me.

6. Awesome news. Economists were projecting a 100K gain. Gobama economic reocovery clocks in 297K!
The only caution I would issue is ADP numbers tend to have a lot of noise. They often diverge from official jobs report rather significantly. Sometimes the official reports actually comes in better so who knows.

Still this is good news.

Key point:
"by the most since records began in 2001"

This isn't just an OK number, this is an out of the park number.

7. Good news about the economy .... SINKS LIKE A ROCK.
The most insane unsupported claim about destruction of US economy, collapse of the dollar, or double dip into a depression. 100+ rec and 20 pages of comments.

Sad.

8. Well, good for the ADP
Now if they would only bring those jobs here. Our county unemployment rate is in double digits (12%).
