When a hotel doesn't act to protect guests' safety -
Call 911. My wife and I stayed in a hotel in San Diego one night. At about 1 A.M. someone in the next room tried, unsuccessfully to open the connecting door between the room. When that failed, the person began kicking the door. It didn't stop when I yelled through the door that he had the wrong room and to knock it off. I called the front desk to report the situation. The night clerk told me to forget about it. Apparently there was a group of wedding guests staying on the floor, and the clerk said someone was just drunk and would soon stop.

While I was on the phone, someone started kicking at the entry door to the room and yelling at the top of his lungs. Since I was still on the phone with the night clerk, I reported that. Again, the clerk shrugged me off. So, I told the clerk that I was going to hang up and call 911 to report someone trying to break into the room.

The clerk's attitude changed instantly, and within two minutes, security was there and escorted the party next door out of the hotel. Sometimes, a guy just has to escalate an issue when a lodging establishment fails in its responsibility to its guests.

So, if a similar situation occurs in a hotel where you're staying, remember that 911 will respond to the hotel. The hotel doesn't want that, and will resolve the situation. If they don't the police will.

2. Similar situation. We didn't have to pay for our room.
We complained about noise and we called 911. Cops came, settled the noise makers down and the next morning when we checked out we were told we wouldn't be charged for the room. :)

3. Similar things have happened to me on more than one
occasion. Now, when I check into a hotel, I inquire about things like wedding parties, prep or college sports teams, or other people likely to be disruptive are booked onto the floor where my room will be. If they are, I request a room on another floor, and don't take any excuses. If someone uses "hotel policy" as an excuse, I ask them what the "hotel policy" is on guests calling the police if disorderly conduct occurs. I get my room on a quiet floor every time.

4. Once in Seattle, WA, I checked in after midnight and
was given a room by by clerk mistake that was already occupied.

My hands were full with a suitcase, garment bag, laptop, and briefcase and I was exhausted.

I slipped in the key card and pushed open the door.

There was a man and woman asleep in the bed and they woke up and the guy pulled a gun on me about 1 second later.

I put up my hands with the card key in on hand and had my luggage at my feet and fortunately the naked guy did not blow me away.

This was a Red Lion Motor Inn 15 or so years ago.

We got our rooms compted but that clerk or a bug in their system nearly killed me (and surely would not have done wonders for the couple).
