Tree destruction devastates family
This is sick.

On May 4, Ted and Angie Boyle had planted 228 techny arborvitae, white spruce, Norway spruce and hybrid willows to form a windbreak on the north and west sides of their house, 2 1/2 miles south of Peosta on Sundown Road.

Sometime last Saturday night, about 85 percent of the trees were cut down and left lying on the ground.

Kevin Kelly, owner of Kelly Tree Farm, who sold the windbreak, said he had never seen anything like it. "That's so deliberate, it's just way past reason," he said.

I hope whoever did this is caught.

1. Uninformed guess.
A neighbor whose views would be blocked by the trees?

2. I don't think so
From the pictures I saw it doesn't look like there are any neighbors there.

5. Can't really tell much from the 2 pics at the link.
I said that because it happened to my Aunt and Uncle about 30 years ago. They had a huge spruce tree growing in their yard. A very healthy large one. One winter/spring it died off very quickly. When it was dug up, the nursery guy was sure that someone dosed the tree with lye or some substance that killed the roots. There were neighbors who complained about the tree blocking their view to the ocean, so we believed someone purposely killed the tree to unobstruct their view. I'm sure that happens a lot...but maybe this wasn't the case here. Not sure why anyone would expend the effort unless there was something going on between this guy and someone he might be having a fued with.
