I've find it almost impossible to say, "Happy" Memorial Day, it is a day when we recall the fallen...I can't find that "happy".
What I do know is that we have fought many wars, and many have died. Some wars were "necessary", most are not.For those that stood at Concord and Lexington, who suffered Valley Forge, who fell at Antietam and Gettysburg, those who died in Belleau Woods, the Argonne, Normandy, Guadalcanal and thousands of other battlefields around the world...I remember, and I feel the pain of loss.
I hope all of our brothers and sisters will return home safely from bases aroudn the world, away from harms way.
I thank every soldier, sailor Airman and Marine for their service; they serve as I have others in my family have served...and so many millions of others.
With the cookouts and pleasantries of the day...for just a moment...
I ask only that we remember those forever young who gave the last full measure of their devotion. Let us work toward a time when there will be war no more...a dream, yes, but most certainly a worthy one.
