Gag me with a fucking spoon.
Some moron from Texas talking about the difficult life and hard work that John Boehner did to get thru college. He even swept the floors of the bar! BFD!

4. He wouldn't want to miss a drop.
I think he still finds bar floors to lick to remind him of the good old days.

7. Wasn't that his family's bar?
Isn't sweeping the floor in a family business whe equivalent of either:
1) chores, or
2) the job they give to the family member who can't get his act together?

14. 1) Yes.
2) In boner's case yes again.

It's not a big deal in a small family business to help with various duties.
I don't know why boner is blubbering on about working in his parent's tavern.

They probably made him put in a few hours a week to earn his allowance or something. It's been gravy train ever since.

as my son did, he can't consider himself "uniquely Amurkin".

15. Working for your family or friends of the family
who got you a job, isn't the same as having to get a job from strangers, working at it. I worked in kitchens and as a waitress to put myself through college. Fortunately, back then you could actually live on minimum wage, thanks to the Democrats who passed good labor laws.

18. Oh, FFS, I started out opening beers and washing glasses in a bar
when I was nine, getting paid in snacks and beer nuts. I thought it was fun at that age.

It only turned into work when I grew up.

So all of his moaning, weeping, and hand wringing just never gets me right there, yanno?

20. The Bar his family owned.
His parents were Kennedy Democrats so his big brother says. He said that he and John became conservative. Which means, somewhere down the line they figured out which side of the bread was buttered. And there is no way we can ever be considered working class. And in the time when they were coming up if your family had a business, no matter what type it was (bar, dry cleaners, local grocer) you were considered well to do. An established businessmen in the community.

23. Back in the Day
There were a lot of Mom and Pop businesses. But those have just about vanished.Coming up as a child those kinds of businesses were all over our community. We did not have to travel miles for services. To buy groceries,go to the dry cleaners, get a haircut, these things were in walking distance from your home. Not anymore. Mr. Boehnerr is making a big deal out of helping in the family business. This was done all the time when I was growing up. And those living off legacy loot are still in the family business.

25. I, too, remember the days of mom & pops. Even in the urban
communities, I remember thriving Black owned businesses, like record shops just about on every corner (White's was the most popular in the D.) and the Greenleaf and Matties on the west side. Those were good times and fond memories.

27. Oh now you are talking!!!!!!
Whites Records,Ferry PK and nr Linwood. Matties B.B.Q. Dexter and McNichols restaurants. My mom worked for Ms. Mattie for a number of years. Best collard greens in the city. Phelps lounge,Twenty Grand. No, most people don't understand that there were businesses that thrived and meant you were recognized in the community. You are right those were the days. Maybe John Boehnerr thinks we forgot that its his type of politics that hurt a lot of those business. And yet him working to help his own is some remarkable feat. Give us the kleenexes why don't cha.

28. Absolutely! Furthermore, if he wants to talk "sacrifice" let's
talk about the AAs' who swept floors, cleaned toilets, waited tables, ran elevators, shined shoes, opened doors and slept in boiler rooms of these institutions just so they could go to college. Don't get me started about hardship and sacrifice!! LOL!!
