New "R" Govs want to bring middle class people down to poverty levels
Strained States Turning to Laws to Curb Labor Unions
By STEVEN GREENHOUSE
Published: January 3, 2011

Faced with growing budget deficits and restive taxpayers, elected officials from Maine to Alabama, Ohio to Arizona, are pushing new legislation to limit the power of labor unions, particularly those representing government workers, in collective bargaining and politics

<snip>

“We can no longer live in a society where the public employees are the haves and taxpayers who foot the bills are the have-nots,” Mr. Walker, a Republican, said in a speech. “The bottom line is that we are going to look at every legal means we have to try to put that balance more on the side of taxpayers.”

I don't know when I have ever heard that a union worker lives as a "have" - so I suppose having a 3 bdrm home is just like having 7 or 8 homes with 16-20 rooms? These are idiots (one a new gov in my state - arghhh!!) pandering to those who funded their campaigns! Break the unions and who the hell will buy the business goods??

1. Becuase of an imbalanced wage system.
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 01:00 PM by RandomThoughts
The tax payers are the richest.

That is a money view, without seeing that they never earned the money, and the tax is not to give them more ability to decide, but to correct the wrong from their wage.

When they say it that way, they are still supporting the rich, but adding another false argument in the statement.

2. the republicans in my state are saying public workers must make a "lifestyle change"
As if they are all luxuriating at spas and lighting cigars with $1000.00 bills.

It really is the biggest piece of propagandistic lies I've ever heard. No body gets rich working for the state.

4. I guess we all will end up working for the TRUE haves....
and be the service society it appears we are becoming! "May I serve you" will not just apply to those who work at fast food places... it will be the 'norm' for the most of us one of these days!

5. The Repukes in Tennessee

seem to believe Mitch McConnell elected them.

They are all about sticking their noses up the rear ends of "important" Republicans, zero about actually helping the people of this state.

I am in "negotiations" to leave Tennessee by the time my youngest graduates high school.

This state is in for deep doo-doo: another Georgia full of failing infrastructure and failing banks and destruction of any and every resource left.

I wish Tennesseans were smarter; but they elected these goons and will pay a steep price for that weakness.

8. I am an empty-nester and have been looking to move somewhere else
BUT WHERE???? First it was home pricing that stopped us/then lack of jobs. Don't need much, not a high paying job, but something that offers HEALTH insurance is what we need - UNLESS THIS US of A GOVERNMENT HAD MEDICARE FOR ALL... then it would be an easy decision to go somewhere else.

Most states are in deep shit because of the Feds!

7. ah... no - I refuse to listen to that radio station (unless it's a Packer Game/sports)
I used to be proud to live in a state that had such great heritage in the Democratic Socialist Party for almost a half-century! Not any more!

9. What exactly does that mean?
“We can no longer live in a society where the public employees are the haves and taxpayers who foot the bills are the have-nots,”

Does that mean they propose to cut the shit out of the pay + benefits of all the elected members of the legislative and executive branches, both state and federal?

10. No, cut the state union workers pay AND prevent unions from forming
in other parts of government.

11. Thanks Serial Mom
Actually I was being sarcastic toward the Repubs who are proposing this, but, not surprisingly seeing the blatant hypocrisy of their argument.

I wish we could have a news media that would call them out on a daily bases on stuff like this.

Peace,
Xicano
