Do republicans really believe
that Boehner is the best man for the job? In his own words, "Hell, no!" But they do apparently believe that replacing the very capable Pelosi with a slobbering drunk is the best insult they can deliver the Democrats.

Just my opinion.

I.e., the destruction of any pretense of beneficial government, and cementing our national position as global laughing stock. That's not to say they don't have a lot of equally or better qualified nutcases, cranks, racists, loons, and corporate stooges waiting in the wings should he fall in the line of duty, but I'm confident he'll do just fine by his real constituents as long as he holds the gavel.

12. PLUS it looks as though any "recovery" we do see depends upon FOREIGN powers:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Asian_Economy/MA06Dk01.html

China, as Dumas notes, is "in the process of shifting massively from the beneficial stimulation of domestic demand to something closely resembling business as usual, circa 2005-07: export-led growth with a bit of overheating".

This has be kind of concerned what with Jon Huntsman, our current ambassador to China, being floated as a Republican 2012 candidate for President.

7. I heard/read that there were some in the party who were somewhat nervous or
at least cautious about him becoming Speaker. Don't know if it was the booze or other considerations.

I don't understand how somebody becomes the Speaker -- do they campaign among their party? I've just heard since mid-terms that "Boehner will be Speaker" -- how/when is that determined, do you know?

9. In the republican cabal, it is not about competency
Rather to be competent for a job would automatically disqualify you for the position.

They would put someone that is overly unqualified in a position of power and then make excuses for their failures.
