The Democrats still control the WH, the Senate, and a fair amount of the House. Yet I see Republicans act as though they were just coronated as the supreme rulers of the universe, and Dems acting like we (justifiably) acted in 2004. Just how bad is this? Will it be similar to how things have been or does this mean a complete throwback to the Bush years? Will Obama still be able to improve things or will Republicans force more welfare for the rich programs onto us? Will they spend the next 2 years trying to impeach Obama for whatever BS they can dig up on him?

1. "The Democrats still control the WH"
If, by Democrats, you mean those committed to government of, by and for the people...

Then you're either joking or crazy.

2. It all depends on the Democrats.
If they show a spine and stand up to the lies, misinformation, and general bullshit spewed by the GOP then we should be fine. Nothing can pass without going through the Senate or the President...

Big "IF" though.

3. It's a big loss
Any tax legislation has to originate in the House and the Rep's will negotiate from a position of strength on anything the Senate Democrats or the White House want.

4. It sets them up to have to deliver a lot of things
when they have the power to pass things only in the House. It is one thing to criticize and get big gains in the off-presidential election, it is another thing to govern. Real governing happens in the executive branch. They have two powers, neither of which they will exercise: refusal to increase the debt ceiling and passing the budget.

5. Republicans Control the House where strict majority rules...
and the minority can't take a piss without permission.

The WH and the Senate can not pass legislation by themselves. All Spending bills must originate in the Congress, so ask your self, what will they chose t fund and what will they chose to let die without money.

This is going to be a tough two years.

11. I think of this as a gain. The world is gonna that the teabaggers are just an act.
And when they dont do shit, as promised, the people will just vote them out and we can forget this ever happened.

15. It's going to be a big win for Colbert/Stewart. For us too, electionwise.
We just won 2012.

Why? The debt ceiling vote. If the repubs vote against it, gov't shutdown, and all those old teabaggers will wonder what happened to their SS checks and medicare. The rest of the country will react the same way it did last time under clinton.

If they vote for it, the teabaggers will primary them, as they did this election only more so, divide the GOP and cause all hell to break lose in the Republican Party.

And the GOP is going to have significant amounts of Repubs voting for it -- Blue dogs and some liberals (like Anthony from NY) will also vote against it.

But it's going to suck for the country. I just hope Obama and the Sen. can keep them from doing too much damage.

17. The worst part about the debt ceiling vote
is that some newly elected Teabagger Republicans talking about refusing to vote for the debt ceiling to be raised have confessed to having no clue as to the implications of refusing to raise it!
Be afraid. Be very afraid!
:scared:

23. Doesn't make sense to us
Seems to make perfect sense to the teabagger crowd (or at least they seem to be o.k. with it any rate). I will be looking forward to the Republicans either supporting this insanity and (hopefully) be held responsible for the disastrous outcome or the Teabaggers' heads exploding when the Republicans raise the debt ceiling without exacting the kind of spending cuts that they're demanding.

22. The narrative was that the repukes were going to turn both
Houses. They didn't. They didn't even win by the
Huge majority they were supposed to in the house.

Dems control the WH and the senate.

It's not the big loss for dems as it is presented.

Now do I like how dems are governing? No.
