CT Senate Passes Bill To Decriminalize Small Amounts Of Marijuana

Yesterday the Connecticut Senate passed a bill that would decriminalize less than a half-ounce of marijuana after Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman (D) cast the tie-breaking vote.

If the bill passes the House and is signed by the Governor, it would make possession of less than a half-ounce of cannabis a $150 fine for the first offense instead of a misdemeanor that carries possible jail time and a $1,000 fine for the first offense, as things stand now. Those between the ages of 18 to 21 caught with a small amount of cannabis face a 60-day driver’s license suspension, if the bill becomes law.
