Let's have no illusions here. Being a Democrat doesn't make you perfect.
This may sound ironic coming from me, given that I've usually been blasted here for supposedly being a blind party loyalist, "Obama bot," and other such unflattering descriptions. But it's the simple facts. Being a Democrat doesn't make you immune. From anything. From fucking hookers, like Eliot Spitzer, or harassing your staff, like Eric Massa. From engaging in financial corruption like Rep. William Jefferson, or getting loaded on booze and prescription drugs and crashing your car, like Rep. Patrick Kennedy.

Personal failings aside, being a Democrat certainly doesn't even mean that you're going to agree with everything that someone does in office, whether it's on terrorism or tax incentives, whether you want them to prioritize the environment or the economy. Even if they can please most of us, there will always be someone who wants more, faster, or in a different direction. Disappointment is inevitable.

That's life. Not everything works right, the detergent doesn't get out that annoying stain, and the electricity cuts out right before you're about to watch "Game of Thrones." Democrats, even the ones lionized by the left like Anthony Weiner, aren't immune to that.

And you know what? I don't really give a fuck. It doesn't change the underlying facts that any Democrat is better than any Republican. It doesn't make them god-like. It does, however, make them the only rational, responsible means to effect change. If you're looking for heroes, go read comic books. You won't find them in the real world, just people. Sometimes great people, sometimes flawed people, sometimes good people who just did something reckless. Anthony Weiner lied to the public, for which he should rightly be ashamed, and deserves whatever he gets. That might make some people here a little more gun-shy about assuming that the white hats can do no wrong. But tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, it will still be the case that Democrats are the only right side in politics, and that none of them are going to be perfect. I accept that, embrace it, and continue to fight.

1. Exactly. Often, the flawed do the best job for their constituents.

2. Agreed. Weiner is still better than a goody two-shoes like John Ashcroft (nt)
