Andrew Cuomo pledges allegiance to neoliberalism

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo called for “a fundamental realignment” of state government on Wednesday, saying New York needs to rethink the services it provides and face up to its overspending problem before it is too late.

“We need radical reform, we need a new approach, we need a new perspective,” said Mr. Cuomo, who was giving his first State of the State address. “And we need it now.”

The speech was emphatically pro-business and centrist, suggesting he is modeling himself more after his former boss, President Bill Clinton, than his father, former Gov. Mario M. Cuomo.

The new governor mentioned the word “tax” or “taxes” 21 times, mostly to denounce them and promise to lower them. “What made New York the Empire State was not a large government complex,” he said. “It was a vibrant private sector that was creating great jobs in the state of New York.” ...............(more)

Centrist seems to be the new word for trickle down, voodoo economics. When will the rich pay their fair share?

That's it. The republicans have won.

The Reaganomic, trickle down, supply side mantra is now taken as narrative, gospel truth by pretty much 90% of elected Democrats, from the President, to governers, to Senators, and Representatives.

The public sector is bad, the private sector is good. Government is bad, the Free Market is good.

I'm waving the white flat. It was one thing when I was fighting republicans and had at least a sizable chunk of one of our two political parties ostensibly on my side. But there's just no way to even keep up that pretense any more.

At every level of our government at this point it's "One for you (the people), One for them (the wealthy/corporations.....two for you, one, two for them.....Three for you, One, Two, Three for them." Just like in the old tyme comedies and cartoons.

7. Facing the facts.

The simple fact is that the establishment Democratic Party in 2011 is Reaganite at its core.

Of course, there are still some genuine progressives here and there ... Kucinich, Sanders, for instance.

But, no doubt about it, the neo-liberal side, which has always been very strong in the Party, has now completely triumphed and supply-side economics has become the model for Pres. Obama and most Democratic leaders.

Not to worry, however. Since the Wall Street gamblers are still looting the government and their customers through derivative trades and other casino manipulations, the next stage in the collapse will come soon enough. Then, maybe, we can crawl out from our bunkers and fight once again to bring real 'people power' to this country.

In the mean time, I give-up too, on the current leaders of the Democratic Party.

8. Since when did protecting pensioners from losing their homes to the state equate to neoliberalism?

I always considered letting people afford to live in the homes that they worked all their lives for to be a pretty liberal concept. Maybe it isn't?

I believe the workers who depend on a salary or retirement from the state and municipal government should be receiving twice what they are currently getting. I am all for that. Always have been. I just don't want my wife and I to become homeless to accomplish that. Someone just needs to sit down and figure out some other method of raising those funds besides taxing us out of our homes to do it.

Thats fair isn't it?
