Our dear friend dogday needs our help.

Some know, but most do not, that dogday has been critically ill for some time. She has had multiple, serious medical conditions which leave her little time and serious physical limitations.

dogday has been a member of DU since 2005 and a moderator here for the last three and a half years. Despite all the illness and struggles, her participation in the moderator forum has been a wonderful asset to this site. She is smart, fair, consistent and has provided a leadership role for the other moderators, and through this, for the membership as a whole.

Last week, dogday had another heart attack and developed pneumonia. Her medical bills have reached unthinkable levels, including medication costs that are not covered and currently exceed $5000. She and her family are struggling to take care of the basic necessities of life, including rent and food.

dogday will leave behind a loving husband, 28 year old son (an Iraq war veteran) and a 15 year old daughter. She has little time left to do what she can for them.

41. I so wish I could help. I'm in a somewhat similar position when it comes to

medical bills and am barely eking it out each month paying what little I can to my medical bills (on top of regular bills). My heart goes out fully to dogday and I wish for the ability to put all of these problems in back pockets and focus time on a wonderful family, love, laughter and ways to find peace in the most difficult of times.

46. When you send someone money through PayPal

how easy is it for them to actually get it? I sent someone money that way a couple of years ago and they either didn't know how to get it or...whatever. It seemed to sit around in their account until they used it for online purchases. Can you put money in someone's Paypal account and them they can use it to purchase things, like groceries in a shop?

50. funds sent to a paypal account can be used in several ways

(1) directly from the paypal account to make other paypal purchases.
(2) transfer those funds to a checking account
(3) in the case of refunds from sellers, if you paid with your credit card via paypal, refunds are credited to your credit card.

I've used paypal for many years and found it to be very convenient. I was even able to get reimbursed by paypal when a seller didn't send the items i ordered.

BTW, if you sent money directly from your checking account as a gift (under the 'personal' category, the recipient gets the full amount. But if the payment was for goods sold or done via a credit card, a paypal fee is deducted from the amount sent to the recipient.

62. You can get a paypal debit card -

I don't know how many people use these, I was selling a bunch of my kid's clothes on eBay and used paypal to make the transactions easy. I think they will give anyone a debit card for their account, you might have to have your card linked to a checking account though - don't know... Once you have the debit card it is like any bank card. Mine has a mastercard logo so I can use it almost anywhere (groceries, gas, stores, etc..).

It is truly criminal that anyone must suffer like this when a few robber barons have amassed so much ill-gotten wealth. When I think that David Koch could wave his arm and make the troubles of a thousand dogday's go away in an instant while never leaving the comfort of his yacht, but instead he stuffs his money into the pockets of losers like Boehner and Kantor so that they can instead suck the lifeblood out of the rest of us, it makes me want to...scream, cry, hide. Something.
