Homophobic Congresswoman to Head Subcommittee on Higher Education

http://www.care2.com/causes/education/blog/homophobic-congresswoman-to-head-house-subcommittee-on-higher-education/

Virginia Foxx, Republican Congresswoman from North Carolina CD-5 and outspoken opponent of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, will be chair the House Subcommittee on Higher Education. Her office announced this on January 4, 2011.

She called Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard's terribly violent death at the hands of two homophobic men "a hoax." Judy Shepard, Matthew's mother, happened to be in the audience at the House of Representatives that day to hear the cruel remark during debate on the bill. Only after public pressure did Foxx apologize and say it was a "poor choice of words."

That Congresswoman Foxx will now have power over the lives of young men and women in colleges and universities in this country is appalling and unacceptable. It is an ongoing injury not only to the Shepard family, but is a thumb in the eye of over 300 groups in coalition engaged in eleven years of civil rights activism. It's also her failure to recognize that the law passed with support from 73% of the American public for efforts to get an expanded hate crimes prevention law passed.

Diane Black of Tennessee who thinks that insurance companies shouldn't cover sick kids because it will put them out of business. Of course she's against "government run health care" too so I guess kids should just fuck off and die.

4. As much as I was against the "surely you don't want Jones back" strategy...
...Virginia Foxx heading any subcommittee on Capitol Hill is a compelling reason to keep a Democratic majority in the House.

7. I was afraid you would say that.
Not only is she homophobic, she's a fucking imbecile. I can't think of a worse person to chair this committee.

9. That is a shame. This country is totally screwed up. Think Palin or Bachmann can't be elected?
Think again. The fact that the teabaggers won the House and now a total dimwit is chairing the United States of America's House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Higher Education shows how stupid America has become.
