FEMA rejects aid claims on homes battered by tornado

Doesn't Look Like FEMA Has Changed Under Obama......

When that tornado ripped through Alabama in late April, it turned Jonathan Stewart's house into a pile of rubble.

Soon afterward, an inspector from the Federal Emergency Management Agency came to the house--or what remained of it, anyway--in Pleasant Grove, near Birmingham, where Stewart, his wife Lisa, and their two kids live. The inspector took pictures and notes, as part of a process to allow the Stewarts to get help from the disaster relief agency.

But a few days later, Stewart received a letter from FEMA. "Based on your FEMA inspection, we have determined that the disaster has not caused your home to be unsafe to live in," the letter said. It informed Stewart that he didn't qualify for a FEMA grant--in part because his home had suffered "insufficient damage."

"Lisa and I looked at the letter and laughed," Stewart told the Birmingham News.

6. oh FFS! Stop injecting your Obama into everything; it is beyond ridiculous.

Not everyone's world revolves around Obama, you know. :eyes: Try paying attention to issues, not personalities.

7. The OP says: Doesn't Look Like FEMA Has Changed Under Obama....And you Say
"it probably changed to the worse, just like almost everything else"

It would be FEMA and the Change the OP is talking about is under Obama. It would seem that you were commenting on somebody already injecting him.

2. Last summer our insurance co. dropped us when a Tornado
ripped off shingles on our roof and caused lots of water damage.... We were blamed for having an older roof.... Many of the actual flood victims in Milwaukee were told by fema they would receive loans that they would have to pay back.. And that is how they helped out the lucky ones... Those who did not receive a loan received no help at all...

3. You can't collect twice from FEMA & Insurance Company...
"Stewart said he has since found out that his insurance coverage will replace his house, meaning he's ineligible for a FEMA grant anyway".

5. My dad got his FEMA claim for damage to his porch. He didn't have homeowners insurance, lives on SS

and VA pension. Just scraping by. Had it not been for the FEMA check he probably wouldn't have been able to repair the damage.

There were lots of others in the neighborhood who had far worse damage than Dad and as far as I know everybody who needed FEMA assistance got it.

9. When I was in Florida and got hit by hurricanes, FEMA took real good care of some of the people
in my hood.
Too good in my opinion.
There was a lot of waste and abuse.
